In Võru  County (camera Kalakotkas 1 – Osprey 1) members of the Eagle Club (Kotkaklubi) in 2011 built an artificial nest instead of the natural one that had crashed. The ospreys acknowledged it as their own in the spring of 2012 and a webcam stream has been transmitted from there.

Ospreys build their nests in tree tops because from there they can see potential dangers early. Even giving the chicks flying lessons is easier in the widely open view, but for the nest demolishing autumn and winter storms often become fatal. Thus in spring the building of a new nest is a rather energy-consuming enterprise.

In the case of ospreys, before settling down to nest several individuals have passed the nest in best soap opera fashion. Discussions, with images and videos, can be followed in the LK forum for enthusiasts: LINK

When the breeding has started in the nest we will introduce the life of these eagles more in detail.

The Tartu  County webcam nest was built by the Eagle Club men in the winter of 2013, also as replacement for a collapsed natural nest nearby and the artificial nest with the camera was at once accepted by the eagles. The history of the nest can be sread on the first page of the forum. The female Irma has been the same for four years but the males have changed. The ospreys that have been nesting in recent years have been ringed, and from this their origins and age is known.
