Grayling     Harjus or ärn      Thymallus thymallus

A protected fish species in Estonian rivers.  Catching is prohibited the year round

Grayling rearing experiments  started at the RMK Põlula Fish Rearing Centre in the spring of 2016.

The belle of our fresh waters whose exterior becomes brighter and the dorsal fin iridescent in rainbow colours before the spawning period in May. Fortunately the state of the natural grayling population in our waters is not hopelessly poor. Let us keep our fingers crossed that the experiments in the RMK Fish Rearing Centre will be successful because we have plenty of rivers where the species would have a good habitat.
