vainamoinen :hi: thank you very much. :2thumbsup: It happens everywhere, not just in Latvia. It’s very bad.

Please, can you tell which animal it is? It's ame's first video on this post:

February 25th

Visit this morning from 06:56 - 07:10

The night was again without calls or events. Only dogs could be heard again.

Bubo has called the light into the day today. :)

06:53 Bubo sends us calls from very far away.
06:55 His calls come closer.
06:56 landing. :D
06:58 A blackbird answers. She had better be quiet. :whistling:

Bubo jumps on the nest edge at 07:02 and stays there until leaving the nest. He calls, cleans himself and very carefully collects every sound with his ears. Very relaxed today. :)

Bubo has to almost claw hard not to slide back into the hole.

It's getting light. Time for Bubo to rest and gather strength.
(It's still not too late to find a female.)

I don't know. Sometimes racoon dogs make very strange shrieks but these ones sound a little bit different

13:10 -13:11
Bubo calls. He can be heard remotely.
Continue:
13:37 -13:38, 14:20, 15:05 -15:08 (a little closer), 15:53 - 15:54, 16:11 - 16:13, 16:25, 16:39 - 16:41

When I heard his first call by chance this afternoon, I followed him all day. I didn't expect Bubo to call so regularly during the day. Only briefly but regularly.
I don't know if he does that otherwise too? :puzzled: I only did the experiment today because I happened to have time.

And it is snowing. :slap:

Hello Polly, I guess that he calls in the daytime because he has no partner …

February 26th

Visit this morning 06:50 -06:52

Good morning everyone! :hi:

My run-through last night showed no events. No calls, no visits, not even the dogs could be heard ... only the rain and the light wind.

I noted Bubo's last calls yesterday between 17:38 -17:48.
Since then he has not been heard. (from me)
Bubo landed quietly at 06:50 on the edge of the nest. Without prior shouting.
He did not jump into the nest but only shouted from the edge.

06:51:52 something behind him got his attention. Fix briefly and Bubo left the nest in this direction at 06:52:10.

Image

Whatever it was, it was tempting. :D
He's calling from up close until 6:53.

Martin :hi: , i was just wondering if I hadn't heard him during the day in the past few days. I'm sure it has something to do with Bubo looking for a partner. I read that owls without a partner often call until early summer. So far beyond the breeding season.

I'm afraid we can't expect any more miracles here. It is frightening that in some places there seem to be more owls in zoos than trophies and as pets than in nature.
It's infuriating.

Bubo's visit in the evening from 17:57 - 18:02 (Hellem :hi: )
Even swans seem to have their habits. How often at this time they fly over the nest from 16:46. I can hardly estimate but I think there are always two, three at the most. Four? :shake: I don't know but it sounds even more impressive when you only hear them and don't see them.

Bubos calls can be heard from 16:46 - 16:56.
I checked it several times because I was not sure. It sounded very far away. Really far away.

A little closer but only insignificant he called further from 17:09 - 17:14.

Voilà ...

Miss nothing ...

And 18:02 flash start from the nest pit.
I fear Bubo has discovered his dinner. :whistling:

February 27th

Bubo's morning visit from 06:52 - 07:03

Good morning, everyone. :hi:

Short to the night with few events:
20:22 And the swans went into the night rest, and chose the way again over the nest. :)

22:19:34 - 22:20:07 and 22:20:40 I cannot recognize the bird beyond doubt. Possibly again the sweet tawny owl. However, the call seems to me a little high. Nevertheless? :help:

06:32 Bubo can be heard. More or less clearly. Either he is moving or he is calling in different directions. In any case in great distance.

06:39 His calls are suddenly very clear. Bubo must be in close proximity. :)

06:49:06 The big question marks for me. A shout, a croak three times in a row. I'm afraid to guess.

6:52 Bubo lands.
A generally very attentive visit today. Bubo plays with all senses. There must have been a lot going on around him.

06:59:36 a crow teases him. He answers her. :D

Image

07:02:07 Bubo begins to take aim at something. He jumps onto the edge of the nest, calls something else and flies 07:03 back into the forest.

His calls can be heard until 07:05.

Hi Martin :hi:
I am really very grateful for your feedback! I was hoping for some help. :) It is nice to learn and experience more and more. Thanks for that! :2thumbsup:

While I was sure about the Tawny owl (22:19:34 - 22:20:07 and 22:20:40), I would not have assigned it to Bubo (06:49:06 ). Although it sounded a bit like a female but since there is none, I rejected the thought of an owl. And from Bubo I have never heard this one loud.
It is a great pity that I can not make videos. I haven't gotten used to it yet. Now it's too late because you can only go back twelve hours. :(

Do you have any idea why Bubo was upset at that moment? :shake:

evening visit from 17:49 - 18:06

This eternal rain ... :banghead:
After all, sometimes you can hear a sweet beeping of a little bird. :)

Our Bubo is doing his thing and wherever he is in his territory - I hear him.

About 17:33 his calls penetrate the Mickey Mouse on my ears. Far away but powerful. :)

I listen to the swans... nothing.

Bubo's visit was really lazy today.
Bubo was almost as lazy as me.

17:49 Bubo gallantly soareth into his nest. Nothing special tonight.
A light evening. He sits there doing what I'd like to do tonight - nothing. :rotf: Except shout.

18:06:03 He flies out of the nest on a ditch.
No time to think. :faint: :rotf:

Hmm... when two animals are in conflict, I'm sure you'd hear them both. So it was only one...
(Considering which nocturnal troublemakers could exist for owls. Except for crows that were heard at the time.)
Maybe you're right. It's not impossible. Since I heard the dogs barking, the idyllic peace and quiet was over for me. It seems to be a populated area.
Whereby people are not necessarily bothered when they are used to them. This morning was probably an unpleasant situation for bubo.

Good morning, everyone. :hi:

You've been busy. Thank you both for the beautiful pictures and videos! :2thumbsup:

Bubo's morning visit was from 06:26 - 06:30

Bubo first lands on the beach and calls.
06:28 he takes his prey from the gift corner and puts it down in front of the tree. He continues shouting and runs back towards the nest edge.
06:30 He flies hastily back into the forest.

Bubo continues to call. From 06:35 on his calls go away but can be heard until 07:01.

06:56:14 - 07:00:05 another call can be heard. :puzzled: (???)
(He started again later.)
