Re: Nightjar. 2019

Post by tonsmit »

Just by chance at 5:32 AM Estonian Time I was checking on the nightjars (nobody home)
and I see a Great Egret strolling by at the top right of the screen.
A Great Egret in a pine forest early in the morning?
Weird. Something illegal going on?

Those seemingly white ones were pair of Common Cranes walking by. Unfortunately not visible if together with chick(s). According the speed - probably no chicks with them.

5:06 there was a family with one young. walks from right to left.
the young is often hidden behind trees.
in the middle young one disappears. in the end through the spruce branches you can see it again.

5:31 they went back.
On the left through the spruce branches you can see. Only the heads were visible.

Fleur, aita, Urmas -- and of course the cam operator, thanks a lot for documenting the cranes' visit! (My computer was down most of the day, so I couldn't catch this in real time.)
Maybe this is a sign that Grus grus should be Estonian bird of the year for 2020? :whistling:

(As for the fox, I'm just glad it didn't pass by 24h earlier...)
