In the snow you can see that the nest is being visited. Of course it could have been any visitor. :whistling:

Nice that the camera is running!

Hagnat's post in last year's topic is helpful -

With thanks to Hagnat -

Eye colour of the female is yellow and of the male light amber.
The colour of the feathers depends very much on the light.
How about the colour (and the form) of the 'nose'?

Jo UK, thank you for opening this thread :2thumbsup:

It's snowing. The snow has covered all marks of the camera installation.

A beautiful day but more snow on the nest
Image

Ravens and woodpecker knockings heard all afternoon
15:50 willow tit and crested tit calling
16:33 greater spotted woodpecker calling.
17:00 stream stopped
Seems the woodpecker is fetching spruce cones from the nest trees and then works on them in a mill

(volume is too low even with external amplifier)

The snow is our friend right now. (Also in many other nests) So you can see well what activities have taken place.

In a sea eagle nest you can see well that the nest is built and prepared.

Jo UK ... thank you! At least this thread gives the feeling that something will soon move in this nest. Just theoretically.

I'm really looking forward to this season.

I wish you all an exciting and happy time! :loveshower:

February 4

Good morning!

So far no activity in this nest. I hope they will turn up soon  Last year the first visit of a GE was on February 6.
I also hope that someone would turn up the volume...

Why is this camera not on the Pontu camera site?

Thanks for the video, guest :hi:
I suddenly realise it's a woodpecker. :shake:
edit: it is a golden eagle.
a question: how did this couple go last year, was there a baby ringed in the second nest?/google tr./
I searched and found this on the Looduskalender website:

Urmas Sellis:
„Monitoring golden eagles is quite complicated since they do not breed every year. The last couple of years the golden eagles have bred successfully in Soomaa. But now evidently the birds decided to skip this breeding year “.
The nesting territories of golden eagles are in bog areas and the nest is set in a higher tree on a bog islet. In Estonia there are about sixty breeding golden eagle pairs.

Biker :hi:
I guess you're right! Grey-headed Woodpecker's call is somewhat similar but much higher...
I rarely heard this call of the GE before. I thought: that sounds familiar..Well, quite different :slap:

Which is good news because: the eagle was here :shake:

Heh  eagle calling and you can also hear the heavy wingflaps 8-)

Yes very interesting if this pair had a chick in another nest nearby, only Gunnar knows.

Last year in Estonia was: occupied territories: 36
Successful breedings: 9
Nestlings: 10, all colour-ring marked (12 in 2017)

(year book eagle72.se)

There is not known other nest of that pair of GEs. Most probably no breeding last year.
Thanks for recording of eagles (voice) visit! There is an hope to see eagles soon.
Microphone needs to be covered with special material. By some reason it is gone after installing the camera and mic. Therefore wind noise often appears and volume needs to be hold low.

Thanks Urmas for explaining the low sound level.
Hopefully the eagles will use this nest this year!

A Golden Eagle? :puzzled:
