Latvian Golden Eagle Nest

A little earlier..
17:03 Spilve lands on the branch behind the nest again. Like yesterday she tries to jump from there into the nest. But she can't, I guess the wind is too strong.

She flies off....

...and in one swoop lands into the nest from the other side. Virsis follows her with his eyes Nice for a video or gif.









17:04 Spilve takes over from Virsis.

April 4

The morning started sunny and with a gentle breeze.
I heard curlews singing

[Marfo]

8:37 Virsis flew in with a pine branch.

Spilve gets up slowly. She stands on one leg for a long time, stretching her other leg and does some yoga.

8:39 Virsis flies off again.

13:15 The wind increases.
Something attracts Spilve's attention, she sees something on the left in the distance. For the next 8 minutes at least she keeps watching attentively to the left. She turns her head backward like a snake's and lays it on het wing

13:56 The weather gets bad again, strong wind and snow.
Spilve calls. Virsis answers. He flies in a minute later.
13:58 Spilve flies away. Virsis covers the eggs.
14:03 the wind is terrible again...

All of a sudden the weather is sunny and less windy again.
Typical April weather...



I'm off

15:26 Spilve flies in. I don't think Virsis has been on the nest for this long before..
Spilve covers the eggs, she doesn't turn them.

Good morning!

9:52 It's a quiet peaceful morning, no wind. Birds are singing, all is well

Spilve is on the eggs, Virsrs is calling.

11:20 Spilve is turning the eggs.

[Marfo]

11:27 Virsis comes with a pine branch.
Spilve gets up and stretches her legs, fies away.

11:37 Virsis turns the eggs.

12:05 Spilve returns and Virsis flies away.

Good morning!

7:43 First changing of the guard. Virsis comes to lay on the nest for a while.

His joy doesn't last long.. 7minutes later Spilve comes back again to take over fom Virsis.
He doesn't stand up immediately, Spilve has to persuade him a little by nibbling his feathers. Finally he gets up, reluctantly, and flies off.

9:30 Remarkable:
Spilve grabs a branch (with a dead leaf), gets up and flies away with it, leaving the eggs alone...
A minute later Virsis flies in and covers the eggs. He doesn't turn them.

Eggs alone, Virsis comes.

13:25 Changing of the guard; Virsis in, Spilve out.

13.25 Virsis flew in to replace Spilve with incubation. Spilve flew away, Virsis incubates.



13.57 Spilve flew in and pulled Virsis by the tail so that he would free her place on the eggs!
