13:23:24 H21 calls, gets up
13:23:46 out (H44 can be heard)
Call until 24:08

13:25:00 H44 'takes over'
He looks stressed. Its wings are spread apart, it opens its beak more often. I think he was hunting and there was just a food delivery.
H21 can be heard.
H44 sorts some branches and is very sensitized.
13:39:33 He's thrown out

Mating noises

13:41:08 H44 back
13:44:57 He leaves the nest with no activity

14:54:35 H21 lands on the upper branch, calls out with a view of the nest.
14:54:44 She jumps down and soon covers the egg.

16:03 H44 calls from the premises and H21 answers.
16:40 H21 lifts the egg. She is standing or cleaning herself. She doesn't cover it again until 10 minutes later.

Image

17:26:28 - 47 Another bird circling the nest tree. I can only see his shadow but H21 follows him quietly with her eyes. 17:26:59 H44 calls. So he will have been the bird.

18:07:43 H21 calls into the area. When there is no reaction from H44, she sits down again.

18:20:03 H44 calls excitedly, H21 answers.

She has a lot of tailwind :D

Image

18:31:00 H21 now moves to the edge of the nest, jumps onto the side branch and leaves the tree 18:31:17.

Calls and hints of mating.

19:07 calls
A goshawk can be seen in flight. He passes the tree on the right from 44 - 46.

19:34:10 'H21' back on the side branch. Looks around ... doesn't come to the nest.
19:35:08 Now! And it's NOT H21!
I am transferring my original recording here from paper although I now know that it was H44. It's strange that H44 takes this route.
He seems a little nervous. It moves back and forth between the nest cavity and the edge of the nest.

But hey ... he has a lot of wind too.

Image

19:41:25 H44 still in the nest ... H21 (I think) can be seen briefly in flight, crows can be heard.
H44 follows it very closely and flies out at 19:41:37.

19:45/46 It keeps rustling. I can't say whether it's one of our H's.
19:47:14 - 20 calls, close

20:03 :innocent:
Image

The hollow in the nest is more pronounced than it looked.

The egg is now free again for 1.5 hours.
I don't want to claim that it is unintentional. I suspect one of the H's is always around.

20:23:27 H21 lands in the upper part of the tree.

Image

They go strange ways today.

20:33:06 she jumps down onto the upper branch and then 20:34:06 into the nest.
To be on the safe side and after today's experience (I can't read the ring) a look at the tail feathers - yes, H21.

I think their trips are over for today.
H21 is currently lifting the egg.

Image

Currently it should still be 12 ° C. By the way, it was quite warm today ... up to 18 ° C.

Good night to all!

The male continues to bring one stick or another, they were lucky to have the nest made and he has not put many. It is also the first green branch that it contributes. It has yet to get better.

The female will not incubate continuously until the second or third egg so that there is not so much difference between the chicks.

There is an update from Imants Jakolevs on the Dabasdati forum. It seems that C86 was born in Matisa Kapi but where he has raised H44 among others is in Zasulauka.

Imants Yakovlev wrote: ↑ Apr 17, 2021 11:04 PM ( Forum Dabasdati )
Another detailed comment 1. In the forum post it is written that H44 is divided in Matīsa cemetery. This is not true, maybe it can be corrected, it is better to write that H44 is divided into Zasulauka, so as not to make a mess.
Because C86, who is the father of H44, is divided in the Matīsa cemetery

Thanks Imants.

Greetings

April 19th

Good morning :hi:

Emiliano, thanks for the information.
Even today it continues so far that the egg is often ventilated or not completely covered / heated. I'm not worried about that (yet). More likely if the egg lies alone for a long time. I see the crows as a danger. However, I am sure that at least one of our H is always around. I hope ... . :innocent:

05:30:00 H21 leaves the nest after the night.

Image

Actually, the nest has really taken on a good shape by now. It happened without me really noticing it. Goshawks continually restore their nests throughout the breeding season. It will be a palace.

Image

06:04:13 - 18 H21 calls
06:07:29 H44 comes into the nest
06:07:41 H21 follows him, but lands in the upper branch

She shouts a lot as he sorts branches back and forth.
06:11:21 H21 audibly leaves the branch
H44 looks after her

Image

06:11:31 H44 is now also flying out

A special visit ... :innocent:

06:13:09 H44 returns with a larger stick, starts building again.
He soon calms down and begins to raise his feathers.

06:18:15, 06:19:07 H44 sits down on the egg for a moment!

Image

It remains resting in its position, but covers the egg for many minutes while standing.

Image

Image

06:36:39 H44 leaves the nest quickly. H21 is now calling out loud.
Mating noises up to 37:20

I took a closer look at many moments, compared tail feathers and zoomed in on the ring. I couldn't believe it was H44.
Very very nice!

His long visit shortened to 8 minutes

07:08:22 - 27 calls
07:11:24 - 45 to hear both H's

07:15:08 H44 squeezes into the nest with a complicated branch. :rotf:

Slomo

He just stands there for a long time ... over the egg.

Image

07:26:26 H21 calls
07:26:58 H44 flies quickly into the area.
Mating noises until 27:59

07:28:40 And back with a new branch
H44 sorts briefly and briefly takes his crouching position over the egg, but flies out in a hurry at 07:30:00.

H44 doesn't fly far. It must be almost below the nest. I saw him land.

07:35:53 The next branch comes into the nest with H44.
07:37:27 H44 flies out, back down.
Call from both H's.

H21 seems to be down there.

07:46:35 Now H21 comes back to the nest.
Sometimes both can be recognized by their landings. 8-)

She only briefly sorts the sticks - chaos from H44 and soon covers the egg. :innocent:

Image

09:13
Image

09:22:50 H21 calls gently at the edge of the nest, looks down.
H44 answers quietly.
09:23:33 H21 flies down.

09:32:30 H44 takes over
His harvest looks good. :innocent:
09: 34: 49/50 He lies down on the egg for a moment.

Image

First build something on the nest, then again standing calmly over the egg.
10:03 H44 starts sorting branches again.
10:05:20 He leaves the nest to hear both H's.
Mating noises until 10:05:50

His visits are getting longer and quieter.

11:15:08 H44 into the nest.
He guards the egg until 11:43:58 (out)

Mating noises until 11:44:23

12:35:35 H21 can be heard.
Meanwhile, H44 comes into the nest with a twig.

The afternoon belonged almost exclusively to H21 and her first egg. :innocent:

12:57:34 A crack can be heard in the tree.
12: 57:37/38 calls from the tree
12:58:59 H21 comes down from the upper floor. Slowly , she goes to the nest cavity and covers the egg.
13:46:20 H21 starts calling ...
... calls 14:33:17 excitedly.
H44 seems to be close now because he answers her. H21 is on the edge of the nest, cleaning itself.
H44 won't come to the nest.
14:38 H21 goes back and covers the egg again.

I want to tell it on the side ... :shake:
A chiffchaff (Phylloscopus collybita) has been heard for a few days. I am very happy, his singing is an oasis for me. Many find it annoying but a summer without the chiffchaff is not a summer. Did you know this little guy is a migratory bird?

16:13:43 H21 calls softly ... H44 answers immediately.
H21 gives a short tone and then everything remains quiet.

So H21 is not pushing for a change.
Sometimes only communication is important. An update as to whether the partner is nearby?

Brave H21. :innocent: If all goes well, we can expect the second egg tomorrow.
It is not binding, but Boka laid her eggs every 3 days. H21 is (knowing?) very firmly in the nest this afternoon .... after H44 was predominantly present in the nest in the morning.

16:23:00 H21 gets up and starts calling.
No reaction from H44.

She stands, waits and begins to clean herself. The wind is freshening her feathers ... it will be good for her. :innocent:
