12:16:20 - 12:18:16 call adult (distance)

Edit: Lazy Sunday afternoon.
No more activities and I do not expect today.
The camera is now running without box and headphones ... this splashing already all day makes me nervous. Is it dew water or a small stream runs there?

As of tomorrow, my vacation is over. Please, it would be nice if you write it if something to see or hear.
:innocent:

Good night and take care!

January 25th

Good evening late :hi:

Today (as well as tomorrow) I have too little time to really see live. From morning I had to rewind now. Surely something slipped through here and there. Thus only meager booty.

But hey ...
08:00:43 - 48 The call of an adult
07:27:07
07:27:48 A call that I cannot assign to any bird.
Certainly it was, but it sounded strange to me. In retrospect, I regret not having made a video for the sound. But it wouldn't have gotten me anywhere either, since I wouldn't have gotten an answer here in my monologue.
So ... a croak, squawk - For the protocol. 8-)

12:59:54 Adult calls

Well, the calls sound mostly in distance.
I suppose the active phase of courtship has been going on for a few days now: Is it the tercile defending the territory now, hoping to be heard by a female?
Or do we actually have an existing pair already?
What role do the juvenile calls play? Actually a juvenile mate? (It could be possible.)
The new eyrie seems to be at least some distance away.
Goshawks mostly call near the eyrie during courtship. And that is definitely not here...not this eyrie.
Which has become the titmouse - conquest site.

I haven't heard any mating sounds yet.
It should sound something like this.

Or read in years past. Fleur has recorded some good moments. :)

14:03 - 05 A cat in heat?
Sounds something like this. I don't think much about it but just grin. :D

By the way ... today there was music to end the day.

First of all, good night to all of you. :offtobed:

.....

11:20:22 -30
11:20:36 -38 Call juvenile

11:21:00 A small mutiny begins.
The meeting participants shout in confusion and Polly throws away the pen.
What I could sort:
11:21:02 juvenile
11:21:30 - 37 juvenile
11:21:45 - 53 juvenile

11:22:00 Gulls, crows raise prodest.
All call througheinder.
The youthful voice is heard constantly.
11:22:54 the juvenile now sounds closer and the whole thing moves a little closer to the nest tree.
11:23:26 /'35 Jay?
I put question marks because woodpeckers sometimes imitate this cawing too.

11:23:35 'Gjak'?

11:24:16 adult closer
11:24:24 Jay?

(11:21:00 - 11:25:00)

...

As I write, I can hear the adult calling out incessantly. He seems to be very excited.
I have not heard the youthful voice since that time.

Any of you?

Okay, I heard it myself.

From the beginning ...

07:47:22 - 29 Call adult (distance)

08:01/02 The cat in heat.
After the sound comparison from @ame ( ) des Jays I was unsure ...but yes, they are cats in heat.

08:03:42 Call adult (distance)

08:30 - 09:36 Always the cat.

Then it became restless.
09:36:50 About the crows began to fly in a flock, screech ....

I don't know if they are hunting or chasing.
I have not been able to track down what has them so upset.

An excerpt ...
09:39 - 09:43

At times they seem to be right in the nest tree.
For moments it is suddenly dead silent before they start their maneuver again.
Sometimes it rustles in the nest tree and they fly away individual crows.
They chatter and caw ... :slap:
Everything seems to revolve around the nest tree.

09:55:50 A crow flies down from the nest tree
09:56:38 She returns.
09:57:22 She is now leaving the nest tree.

10:58:10 A titmouse is having fun in the nest and flies at the camera.

A titmouse? Yes, indeed. A woodpecker in the body of a titmouse.
She seems to be sure that this camera can go away for this season.

11:11:41 juvenile (Youth voice)
In the meantime I had removed the time stamp again and thought that it was more likely a child.
Some days children are often heard. And their squeaking sounds similar.

11:15:40 again
Now I am sure again.

11:16:47 And once again the youthful voice.

It's not the previous drawn out 'lahnen'. Just a short call. Possibly similar to the adult 'Gjak'? Still, I think it's a goshawk.

I'm hearing many calls for the first time and can't compare.
Thus a free thinking of mine.

The call 11:15:40 for comparison.
All sounded the same.

To the 'lahnen' :
It does not translate to me. What else do you say to it?
Interesting: this call is also used for mating females to let the male know that she wants to be supplied with food.
This is new for me. Until now I only knew that it can be a contract call among adults. :book:

"In der modernen Vogelkunde wird unter Lahnen sowohl das Futterbetteln der Jungvögel gegenüber ihren Eltern als auch das ritualisierte Futterbetteln des paarungsbereiten Weibchens gegenüber dem Männchen verstanden."

"In modern ornithology, lanterning is understood to be both the begging of food by young birds to their parents and the ritualized begging of food by the mating-ready female to the male."

Well, meanwhile, tits and sparrows keep finding favor with their new meeting place. The abandoned eyrie ... . :innocent:

12:28:28 -36 Adult calls

13:01:50 Goshawk flies past the nest.
(From the left group of trees down towards the industrial building. Watch out for the center of the picture, then you have him).
13:02:26 Adult in flight with call.
(The goshawk apparently takes off from the point of its landing back up toward the crown nest tree).

Finally good to hear.
It will not mean that this nest will be put into operation but it is nice to experience this proximity. I miss it.

14:32:16 Call adult ... many question marks.
I rewound a lot, unsure.

Hope you all are doing well? It has become so quiet ... only a few are still to read here.
Greetings to you all and cheer up! Whenever possible - think positive. :innocent: (Not 'be positive' ... )

19:16:26 A short call.

Only from whom? 8-)

Nothing before and nothing after.
I think of owl or night heron. (There are said to be occurrences in Latvia.)
But I have to pass. Maybe someone knows.

(I see that the video cannot be played. Short check .... same problem in WTE theme. Then the only thing left is patience. :bash:  )

Good morning everyone :hi:

Sound check:
Everyone is already awake, crows and seagulls fill the morning soundscape.

And also the first hawk was heard:

07:44:35 - 43 adult call
You can almost set the clock by them.

Today is a very lively day. In the meantime, even the magpies rattle with ...
I am now also confused with my records because it is very fast in the territory.

And I think I'm going crazy today ...

10:33:29 A bird jumps from the main trunk down to the left. (also in the video)

10:33:35 Youth voice
10:34:13 Youthful voice but from a different direction and quieter.
There are two juvenile voices!

10:36:44 The crows are picking up speed.
10:36:52 juvenile voice
10:37:00 - 10 juvenile voice (I think two again).

Next 10:37 - 10:38:34
Always clear, close.

10:38:34 Goshawk and crows were in close proximity after. Close to the voices.

10:48:00 A call begins. A mixture of hawk, dog and other birds. I suspect a Jay.

10:55:02 Very far away a real youthful call goes on

10:55:20 Our Jay? begins his imitation again.

Both at the same time sound disturbing.

10:57:39 Call adult (far away)

11:00:50 , 11:02:20 juvenile calls

11:03:30 - 11:04:40 (about) funny song of our probably Jay. :shake:

...and further. He's got it!!! :rotf: :2thumbsup:

11:04:10, 11:05:28, 11:05:46 adult

[*]I hope I have now put all the timestamps and videos together correctly. :slap:

Now I have closing time, time to see everything again in peace and rewind the afternoon as far as it still goes. :innocent:
I suspect that not much more will have happened. The mornings are often more productive...our birds more lively. At least for now.

Conclusion for me so far (without having seen the afternoon) ... Confusion.
I have no idea since today at the latest, how many hawks are currently in this territory. How many adults, juveniles, or adult females using the 'lahnen' in the time of courtship. And how many calls the Jay sold me as a hawk. :rotf:
The winner for me today was the Jay. He sings like a cat, croaking in time with our nestling dog .... Juvenile hawks imitated ... he sits in the middle of the territorial fight of crows and hawks and is fun.

Good night to you all!

:offtobed:

... with fresh snow.

January 30th

Hello together

For the hawks, the wake-up call sounded at almost the usual time.

07:46:52 - 07:47
07:47:48 - 55 call adult voice

(Actually in the last days the first call was always heard between 07:44 - 07:47. Fascinating).

Since then there has been amicable silence.
It is snowing again.
So today becomes my chance to expand my radius of action around the tablet calmly something. :whistling:

Have a pleasant and healthy day! :innocent:

Update

Silence. Not even seagulls or crows spectacle.

It snows and snows .... so beautiful it looks and I hear children squealing merrily ... but aren't we starting to look forward to warmth? Liveliness and life?
I, for one, am crawling towards spring (better summer) on all fours.

Image

16:26 A cat
Cat? Or Jay ... the call came from below. So this time, maybe actually a cat.

Are we allowed to report anecdotes in the winter hole?
It snowed at our house too, and my husband said to me this morning, "We can build a snowman."
What to mention: we recently saw the movie "The Snowman" and I read the book about it (Jo Nesbø).

I'm not sure about his intentions right now ... . :D

Okay, let's see further.

We'll read each other if there is something to report.

Stay in good spirits! :2thumbsup:

January 31st

:hi:

13:59:09 A hawk passes the nest tree.

:innocent:

Slower ...

It was otherwise a very quiet day. Which surprises me.
Here at home the birds are calling like crazy. It's not quite as cold as in Riga, only -4C° but the singing level was very high.
Here again silence ... .

Hm, I was tempted to take a screenshot of the hawk. I was interested in the plumage.
Probably that of an adult. I accidentally had a still picture but that would have been the perfect screenshot. The moment when he turns lithely to the left of the trunk away from the nest. dumb, I messed up that picture. :banghead: But there you could see the adult plumage well.

Image

And I think there were two.
A second bird steers into the upper right field of the picture.
Maybe someone will check?
I am already blind.

Good night and sweet dreams! :offtobed:

I checked the video at that time, and I saw two birds as well, though they're not very visible...
Image

The hawk appeared to the left of the tree trunk for only four frames in total. I made a composite of the two clearest frames:
Image
Though I don't think either of them give a clear enough view of the plumage...

I have to say I'm impressed you manage to spot these hawks in the first place!

February 1st

Good morning! :hi:

Floppy Fish, you did a great job! Many many thanks!!!! :2thumbsup: It is truly hard.

This scene plays out faster than you can think or react.
Your screenshot also confirms my inner silent quandary. The pointy wings...they look more like a Sparrowhawk. However, in my screenshot I see a hawk. And overall, this bird looks quite compact.
The plumage seems to be rather juvenile to me after a longer look.

Okay, I'll let the moment go and let professionals or experts decide.

I like the idea that we may have *spotted* a pair on their joint courtship flight. :innocent:

Maybe we'll see more sightings this season.

What happened today until now:

07:32:29/30 short call adult

10:10:12 - 17 call adult (quite close)

I have to get to work soon and wish you a healthy start to the week!
