11:02/03 Heard a Juvenile and H44.

11:10 Juvenile
11:11 Now two from different distances. It sounds like an echo. 8-)

11:16 One of the children now alone ...

11:25 The calls of the goshawk were replaced by that of the chiffchaff. :innocent:

The wind tugs at branches and leaves ...

17:50 One was heard over and over again during the day but now the crowd is more energetic - pretty close to the nest.

However, no parent heard.

18:19 The 'kitten' in the tree is getting reinforcements.
A sibling now calls with - removed.

No sightings today - until now.
Belongs to two Juveniles and H44 for sure. H21 and a third juvenile in question.

I hope to see one or the other of our Mini H's again. Our big H's anyway ... . :innocent:
The boy is seldom seen.

I don't know what the survival rate is in Riga. But youth mortality rates are also high for young Goshawk, even if some people may have built a different picture. Not all ... in numbers maybe even in bad times a few young goshawk survive their first year. Natural conditions, hunting ... they all have to take care of themselves every day.
We experience it - even Lui and Boka have disappeared as it were. It can hardly have been a natural circumstance.
I hope our H's can fly a peaceful path.

In almost all species there is talk of a high juvenile mortality, it is difficult for me to think that a goshawk that has spent a few months living in the field would have feeding difficulties. But there is quite a bit of competition, although in Rjga there are common feeding points like landfills ...

In the winters if they are hard it can also affect.
Hunting accidents can happen at any time, they give themselves a lot and any slightly serious injury is difficult to overcome.

As for Boka and Luijs, it is difficult for me to think that they both had an accident, maybe one did and the other dispersed.

I am satisfied that H44 and H21 appear in the area in the previous season (December onwards). They are marked and we already know a little about their ways of being, voices, etc ...

As for the young people, wish them luck and follow their destiny.

Greetings

Emiliano

July 22nd

Addendum:
(unfortunately not otherwise possible at the moment, organizational)

13:01:14 - 18 H21 can be heard with kikiki, excited
Even a juvenile calls, in the tree or very close to the nest. H44 is also present ... he reports 'Gjak' from the area.

13:03:04 - 07 H21 again, excited kikiki but now far away.

So currently we hear three of our H's: Still the juvenile in the tree, H44 in the area and H21, which keeps things tidy further away. :innocent:

13:05 Now there is movement.
The second juvenile can be heard. Excited calls ... the children see more than we do. Because H44 set out with food.

13:05:58 H44 lands at the nest and brings food.

The juveniles are quickly at the table and their father is swept out of the nest.

It is claimed and screeched - but they don't argue.
A short time later, the loser jumps onto the side branch ... and waits. :whistling:

Lurking glances wander back and forth ... from the side branch there are envious but patient glances.

The juvenile tugs at the prey somewhat listlessly. Owning is the key! Still, he takes a few bites.

13:19 Played enough.
The juvenile stops eating and lies down in the small entrance. The big moment for his sibling. 8-)
He jumps from the side branch to the prey - the game starts all over again. Claiming and screaming (his voice seems to be the lighter one?) ... his sibling does not play along, however.

The sibling in the tree calls (probably right in front of the nest entrance), while the one in the nest continues to eat and warns with attempts similar to a kikiki. It sounds a bit hissing, awkward but clear.
(I forgot to include it. :slap: )

Image

Briefly in and out again ... just look. :whistling:

Not finished yet.

13:52 But now the meal is finished.
Quick change - as soon as one jumps onto the side branch, the other is back. Look-up is taken.

Image

14:11 Now both juveniles are full and spread out in the nursery.

Both of them clearly feel comfortable and secure today.
They don't leave the tree, they just change their positions.

The evening goes on ... in the further course the nest tree is filled with all the lively juveniles. :2thumbsup:

Image

Image

Image

21:52 Still active.
A juvenile calls, flies from the left into the industrial area. Another voice can be heard.
21:55:01 H44 'Gjak' :2thumbsup:

Call at least two juveniles. One in the tree, the other voice also very close.
21:58 Two Goshawk fly off the yellow mast into the area.
Fascinating how bright their plumage looks in flight.

22:05 Their calls can still be heard, but it will soon be quiet in the area ... . :innocent:

H94

07:30 Apparently, feed is being brought into the area. The distant juvenile approaches excitedly shouting and his sibling on the branch hurries into the area.

11:42 Juvenile flies calling between the terrain and the nest tree
