Yes, Boka adapts the nursery.


Little one is 3 weeks old today. A chick in need of cuddling but very bright!

Boka also spent the night with her chicks in the nest.
She ruffles her feathers today.



Mother and children look like Fluffy Balls ...tired Fluffy Balls.

06:04:05 out of the tree top ... both birds fly in the same direction. No crows. I think it is Lui and Boka.

The feedings are really without exception beautiful to look at. Sometimes the chicks are a bit stormy but never aggressive. It seems that it is not the chicks that set the pace here. They follow their mother. They do not peck and do not bite.

Will it stay that way?

This feeding takes longer than I would have expected. The last one was not long ago.

In my opinion, Boka is conspicuously present in the nest today. I envy their perceptions. Everything seems peaceful to me - current. Not even the crows can be heard. But Boka watches over and fixes every movement around the nest. There may be a reason for your anxiety.

Boka wasn't in or at the nest yet. That doesn't mean she's not around.

Due to the zero reaction, rather that Boka only changed the location within the tree. Otherwise the excitement would be greater.

No changes so far. A quiet day for our hawk family in Riga. Boka has now taken her place on her branch and will hopefully watch over her children at night.

The development of the two is great to watch.
The chicks are less than four weeks old .... The plumage grows almost every hour.
Buttoneye is increasingly on his feet and his sibling, who is two days younger, is taking great strides.





When I looked briefly earlier (no detailed observation today), croaking crows flew around the nest. Little one was in the bowl, beeping. Button eye stood fearlessly on the nest's edge and just looked ... confident, without fear.

Cuddling together is still very important to both of them.



I keep thinking about what gender we have in these two chicks. It is difficult to say with hawks (is it?).
I have a suspicion ... a feeling but I'll keep that to myself.

The chick enthusiastically tests its wings ... strong and beautiful. It is the first time that I watch it here. So nice to look at ....



Little one tries it right away, but it stays paddling.


As if comforting, button eyes tug his younger sibling gently on the head feathers ... beak and move to his side.

21:41 Boka comes back to the nest with prey. I would say an adult bird (pigeon, chicken?). According to the wing feathers. But I don't dare to make these claims.

She only feeds Litlle one. Coincidence? However, it looks like she only offers the younger chick. Button eye often snaps unsuccessfully afterwards. No aggression ... no chopping after the sibling.
In the further course she chops off bites and holds them between both chicks. Button eye begins to orient itself towards the prey. The view is obscured but I suspect the chick is trying to take care of itself.

Also new ... it fixes every movement of its mother. Button eye goes head down and turns it. So look up at an angle and follow everything strangely inquisitive. Food no longer seems important - rather watch.

Feeding has ended.
There is nothing left. When Boka leaves for her branch, both chicks do what only button eyes did before.

June 2nd

Hi

I had no opportunity to see earlier today. My rinse is just enough to be fed.

10:44 It is fed and again it is the younger Little one that actively uses the feed. Not exclusively but often. It is not clear whether it can actually separate bites.



12:09 Boka flies sideways into the nest and puts a birch branch somewhat carelessly on the button eye. She gets an uncomprehending look from Junior.

Then 12:12 ... actually the chicks don't seem to be hungry but the button eye starts to peck at the food. Fine! Boka encourages it ... shows it and gives bites too. But it looks good!

15:38 Boka comes to the nest with prey. I can not say what is on the menu.
She puts the food down. Stand, look ... listen. The little ones greeted them expectantly, but have now let themselves be carried away to rest. They wait in the bowl for what happens - nothing.


Instead, Boka jumps onto her branch at 15:47.

Do we now have a new development in feeding? Boka did not actively feed but only provided the feed.
The chicks may learn to bite themselves.
