Feeding a small black stork
As you may know, our female black stork killed the smallest chick in the nest (this is very common in nature). The third smallest was also noticeably smaller than the two oldest siblings. So we temporarily removed it from the nest and feed it by hand. If possible, he is in as little contact with the caregivers as possible so that he does not get used to them. In about a week we will try to return it to the nest . We'll see, keep your fingers crossed for him, he'll need it.

Not for defense against a hawk. The hawk is a forest predator and it doesn't do anything to itself with a few sticks. He can maneuver perfectly and even if there is something sticking out, it will miss it.
The chicks still move around the central part of the nest - the one lined with moss. The twigs in the crown of the nest are on.
A marten, like a hawk, also feels great in the forest. It does not fly, but it climbs and jumps perfectly. It is not an obstacle for the marten, because our nest is located
On two branches and the marten can easily get to the nest after them.

Do you mean that the pine feather somehow broke by itself?
Two other storklets have dark spots on their heads: that is verified information and everyone can see it.

Do you mean that the pine feather broke by itself?
One of the storklets has some dark spots on the head.

1/ yes - we see that on the eagles nests some-times and it is described in the papers
2/ yes - the younger chick already came up with such a head (you can rewind) and Tonička had preened it too vigorously (she also pulled out fine down feathers), as it did not react adequately, so she intensified her behaviour
btw. we see that intensification by adult birds (usually males) when they “preen” the female's head to get her to move from the nest bowl
