Hello everyone :hi:

CZ - RS Makov (Rescue Station Makov https://www.makov.cz/clanky/about-us-19.html)
https://youtu.be/xOsXWkp1_BM

- handicaped pair, male with ring (M - Toník, F - Tonička)
- chicks: 14.05. + 14.05. + 15.05. + 17.05.

2 little one saved to the "nursery"

- the smallest escaped from brood reduction (my opinion) to the edge of the nest from where the female pulled him with her bill
- I hope there was no damage
- the third was O.K., even though it is also smaller than the first two, but the care is better when they are two

the quartet
Image

it seems first like usually preening, but Tonička (female) grabbed the little one by its bill

So it was necessary to separate two younger storklets from the very beginning but nobody knew that Tonichka would eliminate the normal storklet at the age of 15 days!

Enough food, the healthy and active fourth chick. The only reason of elimination may be "genetic program" like the elder LSE eaglets always kill their younger siblings and some storks always get rid of the fourth and the fifth chicks.

I am not sure if little ones was healthy ... little one's reactions at preening were not adequate (weak, no correct response)

Last year the third chick was not eliminated despite it had serious problems with legs, so the reason clearly is the number of chick more than three. And what will be with the third one?

we will see

the third chick previous year: the Hungarian zoologist wrote when Tobiás hesitated to thrown Benjamin from the nest, that storks can evaluate both the storklet's motor response and the response of internal organs to taps (something like an examination by a neurologist)

Not too encouraging answer regarding the future fate of the third storklet is in this topic, page 653.

Short info about black storks: black storks are much shorter and more sensitive to disturbance, it is not possible to take the young away from them and carry them back, all young could be killed due to stress! It is not possible to feed one young separately, it is irreversibly fixed on humans and cannot be returned to nature. We would have to take two cubs, but there is a big difference between them and the result is unclear. We'll see, the feedings are in abundance, so hopefully even the youngest can do it, in case of a problem we will intervene.

PL - Łodz, nest on the oak (gniazdo na dębie)
https://youtu.be/WZB4sFfazFk

- chicks: 22.05. (18.08) + 23.05. (19.38) + 24.05. (04.34) + 25.05. (15.11.)

brood reduction - the youngest chick (07:40)
at the time of feeding the little stork was every time slow, so he ate less and the difference between him and the three older siblings deepened more and more

poor little one is still in nest - the adult stork tries to swallow it repeatedly

It's terrible I'm sad I have been watching this nest since that year, I would never have thought that here it could be eliminated  I'm worried about the little ones, they haven't eaten anything yet and Flo is trying to get rid of the body at all costs

PL - Łodz, nest on the oak (gniazdo na dębie)
https://youtu.be/WZB4sFfazFk

after many hours, the male stork finally stopped trying to swallow the poor youngest one and placed it on the edge of the nest
Image

I saw only one little fish - it was eaten by the storklet closest to the camera
the farthest one has been pulling the middle one by the wings for a relatively long time
