Karl II incubates, meanwhile it is raining

Image

16:47:46 he gets up, rolls the eggs, but for a short time and covers the eggs again

16:50 the light is strange again, there must be thunder somewhere

Image

When Karl II (also Kaia) is in the nest, s/he often arranges the nest with a beak, because everything must be perfect!

Good evening.

Kaia surprised us twice today.
First, when she came back, she brought moss with her!
Image
Secondly, when there was danger, she did not fly away from the nest (as last time and left the eggs alone for a long time...), but stayed and protected the clutch!
Image

And her behavior when she tries to stay as long as possible on the masonry (when Karl II arrives)?
Everything tells us that the young stork awakens the instincts of a good mother... And we can hope for a better season this year. At least, until now, I have only joy... We have a good pair of storks in front of the camera. This is our reward for the past years...

Thank you @Heloise for the beautiful pictures and the timeline.
Karl II leg lifters are legendary. I sometimes wonder whether Karl II might have serious leg problems after sitting for a long time.

Hello @ Tatiana60
nice to read you

10:00 Kaia incubates. The nest edge has grown. 8 -)
Karl II worked hard this morning.
...
A marvellous video, Swenja! Many thanks! It's a pleasure to watch. :-)
Karl II as we know him. :D He is tireless in his efforts to make the nest safe.

The best news of the day: First Kaia brings moss to the nest and then she has the courage to defend the clutch against the crow! An astonishing quick development of the shy young female. You can see how she learns every day. Meanwhile, she is also quite calm when Karl II comes to the nest every 3 minutes with new material. She no longer jumps up immediately, but watches how Karl II distributes the material in the nest.
This is so amazing to see. It gives hope that this can be a successful season after all. :D

Good morning!

Michi :hi:

Thank you for your kind words!
Yes, we have a great opportunity to see how a "girl" has become a "woman".
Let´s hope that Kaia will also be a good mother for little storklets!
