I thought the same for a moment, Heloise.
But we just don’t know, of course.
Thanks a lot for all today’s wonderful work!
Sleep well, everyone.

Good night. Yes, the day was full of events...
Strong storks have grown up. The storks flew without any problems - without falls, injuries... they immediately returned painlessly and this speaks volumes.Glory to the storks ' parents and Urmas, and his assistants, and to everyone on whom the life of the animal and plant world in the reserve depends. You are not indifferent people who love their work, love all flying, crawling, jumping and running on the ground...
I could barely keep up with what was happening, ran around on important matters and returned to the computer.... All the more valuable for me is not only what I see, but also what I read here. And the new knowledge is priceless. Thank you very much for the reports. Anne, Heloise, Liz, Swenja, you are irresistible! And Abigyl, pirkkokn, who were nearby, you are also important. It's a pity that I don't always have the opportunity to post photos and videos, but I'm also nearby.
Good night.
Our tired children closed their eyes... let them have good dreams...

all,
thanks everyone for the nice reporting and pictures and vids of the great day
and congrats to Pikne and Udu to their perfect maiden flights and equally perfect landings on returns !
Since about one week i have a lot of trouble with my internet connection, it breaks down very often every day, sometimes for hours, it's annoying. The internet provider only says "yes, there is a malfunction" and "we are working on it". Unfortunately unsuccessful so far So, i'm not able to watch the cams nor contribute.

Udu and Pikne fly and they kept coming back this morning.
Tuul looks lonely alone.
07:51 Udu and Pikne are back.
Tuul has had this hanging feather under his wing for a long time. I don't hope this is a problem.

Good morning.
Tuul looks excited, he has never flown before...
Pikne again flew out and immediately returned. The development of the territory is proceeding gradually. The Tuul has climbed on a branch, rotates on it, nervously pecks it, jumps from it into the nests, jumps high in the nest..., flaps its wings... he is not sure of himself, but his desire to fly is obvious. He often looks down under the nest...
07.59 he went to the branch far to the right
08.02 the elders left the nest...
08.04 Pikne is back.
08.06 Tuul has gone far to the right again. We can see his tail.
Pikne periodically sneezes...
08.10.39 Pikne flew to the left and immediately returned...
08.11.54 Udu returned

Anne and Solo!
Now it's easy to prove is these myths about teaching to forage, teaching to migrate from parents true or not.
Thanks to transmitter on Karl II and his children who are also equipped with transmitters.
Kotkaklubi just needs to inform us if those coordinates will bee at the same place outside of the nest.
As Mom flies away sooner, all the weight lies on Dads shoulders.
And then we'll know, right?

08.17.31 all three are diligently cleaning their tailcoats and hoping for breakfast.
08.20 The Tuul has calmed down (everyone is in the nest and seems to be in no hurry), he has hidden his beak in his collar and is dozing on the right edge of the nest. Pikne is doing the same thing in front of the camera as Tuul. Udu is diligently cleaning his feathers - his head probably has plans for long-distance flights...
08.29 all three froze in one position. They are resting.

Hello everyone
Liz and I didn't talk about the parents, but about a possible example of other adult storks
Dr. Strazds has 40 years of field observations
several transmitters on parents and their offsprings offer us new knowledge, but it is still not enough for generalizations

We know they don't fly with their parents. The female has possibly another wintering area than the male. The juvenile join a group of adults. Those who don't, have a bad chance of survival. These are already findings from many storks with transmitters. Latvia has equipped 27 juveniles with transmitters. Only 1 is still alive.
We won't know any more than we did before. We'll just see if they survive longer than a year.
Overall, there is too little data in relation to the population to have reliable knowledge. That is why some continue to research. Ultimately, you have to prove that they are worth protecting. Without well-founded data, it will not work
Governments, forest owners and so on, are more interested in easy money than in forest animals
https://www.looduskalender.ee/forum/vie ... 87#p569387
Data (unpublised so far) from 22 LV storklets that started migration at all (from 27 tagged), the mean age of start of migration is at least 89.7 days, min. 73.4, max 142.2 days. Of those 5 birds that reached age of 1 year, mean age is 90.5 days (Mellene – 92.5, Kate – 85.4, Sarma – 115.2, Raitis – 83.0, Mare – 76.4).

08:51:38 all three are waiting for breakfast in the nest, Udu is standing in the background - behind Tuul.
... such a pose of the Tuul indicates that his sebaceous gland is working...
09:10 Pikne is standing in the same pose in front of the camera for almost an hour ... Udu is sitting, gaining strength ... Tuul is cleaning his tailcoat ...
beautiful weather: sunny, but not hot, windless. It's time for flights, but apparently the early morning flights have tired the children and they are waiting for breakfast.

09:23 Tuul's excitement is growing, he walks along the edge of the nest, goes to the right, walks along a branch, knocks with his beak, picks through branches ... Udu and Pikne look calm.
