Great that this big feather of Karl II's was too big and heavy for the wren.

Hello Summi :hi:

But actually the wren had found the big black feather more interesting on the first visit.
I guess it was a little big for him.
But he came back because the little white feather also appealed to him.
Even little majesties have claims!

14:45:24 The wind has brought the feather back.

July 31st

Karl II was last in the nest on July 21st. To date, he has not returned to the nest.

So we still don't know exactly whether Karl II really wears a transmitter.

We also don't know if Karl II is already flying south. :banghead:

Even if the transmitter shows on the migration card that the transmitter is on the way south,
we do not know whether the transmitter is actually carried on Karl II's back. :puzzled:

I myself am convinced that Karl II actually got a transmitter. But unfortunately Karl II does not show up.

Hi you all!
Every such BS breeding failure would decide the Ornithologists to classify BS of a very High Concern species.
This Forum was beautiful, indeed; thank you!

03. Aug.

Good morning to all :hi:

I no longer believe that Karl II will come to the nest again.
Last year, Oru migrated on Aug 10th. Aru on Aug 17th Karl II was the last time on the nest on Aug 15th. He should feed the Oru and Aru. There are no chicks this year. It was no longer necessary to stay on the nest for so long.
Today is August 3rd. I think we have to wait until next year ....
.... or, Karl II surprises us all ... :D

Karl II, if you're already on the road, all the best ... come back home safely. Hopefully with Kaya.

Hello Tatiana60 :hi:
Thanks for the nice reports about the little visitors! Tit in flight is very cute.

Hello sova :hi:
Unfortunately it will be the case that we will no longer see Karl II.
All observers lack the final confirmation that Karl II actually has the transmitter.
I think it would be a real surprise if he came back to the nest before flying south. Who knows

5 August .

Friends, do not rush to say goodbye.

I think we all need to wait for Urmas or his companions :book: to tell us what is happening in Karula :
- the black storks are still flying, or can't see them,
- what the installed new transmitter shows (the stork is still feeding or moving far from the nest),
- whether the transmitter came closer to our nest during the entire time since its installation,
- whether there are still photos of the stork before and after the installation of the transmitter.

I really hope that Urmas will find time to answer at least briefly all our questions. :faint:
I wish him good luck, health and cheerfulness.

Many thanks, Tatiana, for your contribution! You have well summarized all the important and most interesting questions.
I hope Urmas :hi: has a heart for us and gives us some answers. :2thumbsup:

Can't say for sure that trapped and tagged stork is Karl II, but no evidents against it. This bird behaves well on its territory since trapping in 22nd of July, moving between different fresh waters in range from 5km of nest up to 30 km away from nest site fitted with webcam. Local bird watcher has detected Black Stork with transmitter on back, but no photos probably. Karl the II flew near nest site around mid day in 7th of Aug, but probably did not visit the nest. Same time Eedi, the tracked storks spends time in Latvia, near Cesis during last week.

Thank you @Urmas

It will likely be a secret until next season whether Karl II actually got the transmitter.
Because we would only know for sure when Karl II can be identified by the nest.
The bird migration to the south will soon be visible on the bird map and we can see the data from the new transmitter carrier?

Thank you for your work @Urmas and the team.

There is only one evidence: the tagged bird never showed up near the nest, while Karl I appeared there in two days. Has KarlII got scared so much that avoids the nest area since then or is the tagged bird Karl III(like it was with Toomas the Second in 2009)?
