So glad the storks have returned to the nest. Back in 2017 I was sick with bronchitis and sat around watching bird nests. My two favorite nests were the storks and an Osprey family in the US. I am down to just the storks to watch as the camera for the osprey nest went out in a storm and they probably will not fix it this season. So more time to enjoy our little couple. Hopefully we will see their mating be successful and both take part in the hatching.

20:58 It's almost dark at nest, Kaia did not come home for the night.
I believe, this is not a good sign. Is to expect that she changes her behavior if she has eggs? Hard to believe.

I feel sorry for Karl II.

Michi,
the words you wrote make me so sad, but we share the same doubts, unfortunately

Heloise, it was difficult for me to write that down. But Kaia's behaviour does not give me confidence. The whole day was typical for Kaia. She was away more than at the nest. I am sad, too.
Maybe I'm too quick with my assessment, maybe I'm wrong. I hope so.

Owww, Michi , i'm sorry to read about Kaia's today's behaviour, especially the frequent rejection of mating, hiding to the curved branch - and then showing Karl II her back most of the time. Everything started so nicely and was so promising yesterday....
Almost the whole day i was busy and could not watch, therefore i'm very grateful for all your reports and pictures. You've done a lot of work here today - thank you very much.
The only picture i can add today is one of those, when Karl II looks at Kaia's back, with such a look, that makes me also feel so sorry for him. He did everything, nestworking, laying down etc., to show her that he will be a good mate (and we know he would be the very best of all) but it really seems she is still not yet "ready" for it.
14.50.57 oh, this longing look.....
...and then he is alone in the nest tonight *sigh*
Of course, thanks also to everyone for each contribution.
Let's wait and see how it will develop.....
Good night

Good Morning everyone!
thank you for reporting and pictures.
5:56 Karl II is doing a ps and now he is poking in the nest bowl.
I read briefly. I think everything is OK with the relationship between Karl II and Kaia.
We only see what happens in the nest. The relationship also exists outside of it. So you can't say here that what happened is is worrying. I am not worried
6:07 he is stretching a wing
6:09 he went on the curved branch and flew away

Hello @Michi and Heloise
I also thought of a bad sign that Kaia didn't show up last night. What has changed with Kaia since last year?
Not much except for her beautiful feathers. But she still has no experience with the complexity of a successful season. She's just still inexperienced.
Karl II did not seem very concerned yesterday that Kaia did not come to the nest.
For that he seems excited to be looking for her today.

how do you know? She may have chosen a different partner. Maybe she's going to look for food?
We don't know how old she is. We don't know if it's the same bird as last year. thus one can make assumptions, but not assertions.
I would just wait and see what happens. The season has only just begun.

Hello Liz
Everything here only describes possibilities, just as you see completely different possibilities.
We only see what the camera shows us and some just see good signs and bad signs.
Greetings
I didn't write that I knew. You don't know either.how do you know?
