Times of Adult Black Storks on Nest.

Post by Jo UK »

Urmas thinks that it may be helpful to the species, if we start to understand how much time each adult black stork spends on the nest. Members have noticed that Karl seems to be present for longer periods that Kati. So if we just post something like " Karl arrived on the nest now at xxx time". then at the next change we can work out that Karl has spent xxx hours .
And the same for Kati, of course. At the end of each 24 hour period I can then count up the hours and minutes that each adult did "nest duty"

At the end of the next season - say up to fledge time - we then have a record of Black Stork adult times on nest. It may help, somehow.
As Urmas wrote -
"That may have some value to find out reasons of the higher mortality of females in population, maybe."

So only arrivals and departures are needed on this topic. Everything else on the usual topic, please.

May 17.

It seems that Karl was on the nest during the hatch of the first chick. He can be seen in a pic at 5.50 Olga's post viewtopic.php?p=467211#p467211
but then -
In Elena11's video it is clearly Kati at the hatch of the first chick. viewtopic.php?p=467569#p467569
That looks like very early morning.

8.42 Karl arrived. Kati departed.

11.34. Karl arrived
11.49 Kati left.

16.01 Kati arrived. Karl departed.

20.24 Karl arrived. Kati departed.

21.30 Picture of Karl on the nest.

Jo  I used our forum member debianuser's tool http://pontu.ca/
May 17
Karl was on the nest all the night
6:20 Kati arrived, Karl off
since 6:44-7:35 Karl back and off with nestmaterial, Kati on the eggs
7:36-7:40 Karl incubates, Kati stands
7:41 Kati back on the eggs, Karl left
8:17 Karl arrives and stands on the nest until 8:43, Kati incubates
8:43 Kati left, Karl began incubating

9:57 Kati arrived, Karl left

11:34 Karl arrives, Kati is incubating
11:49 Kati stood up and left, Karl began incubating
JO:21.30 Picture of Kati on the nest. 21:30 Karl is on the nest, not Kati.

Thank you Hellem. If you have taken that from pontu and Debianuser's tool, it should be accurate. I was takingfrom forum posts and they are not complete, of course.
