A study in Estonia found that the retention of large older trees during forest management is important in providing nesting sites for the species (Lohmus and Sellis 2003). Conservation measures aimed at increasing the species's breeding success and population density should cover large territories of predominantly deciduous woodland and should focus on managing the river quality as far as 20 km away from nesting sites, protecting and managing feeding habitats, and improving food resources by establishing shallow artificial pools in grasslands or along rivers (Jiguet and Villarubias 2004)."

If there are four eggs in the nest then there is the constant presence of an adult to beware of. Will you climb the tree and risk so disturbing the adults so make them abandon the nest? Then you have lost at least three possible new young storks.

LSE would sure abandon the nest but not the black storks. Remember how was it in Zile/Ozols nest when the WTE attacked them and stole two eggs, they returned as if nothing happened.

Even if you'll raise up 1,2 or 3 chicken in captivity, fill up ponds with fishes and catch or chase away the goshawk – what's the result ?
The only advantage for you is that you don't have to face the problems anymore.
You don't have to cope any more with a dead chicken (while the stork parents have to cope with you as a theft of their chicken and while the chicken have to cope being breeded up by strange behaving humans instead of their parents).
You can relax and watch conditions which are not natural anymore, which are only like a strategic game by you, where you decide which animal species are allowed to breed up their offspring or not (pity for the goshawk).
You are masking and hiding the problems (and therefore supporting them) instead of identifying the reasons for the problems and implementing the solutions. That is very convenient for you in deed.
But that is no help regarding ensuring the survival of the BS – and by the way, there are many, many other animals which are threatened with extinction, too !
Animal welfare is not the same as protection of species.
You cannot betray the nature and the laws of nature for a long time ! You only betray yourself.

Yes, there are many animals in Red Book, but this is the topic about Black Storks and whether people can help.
The concrete result you can see in Makov: all the three healthy black storklets fledged this year, one of them already reached Israel. Such dangers as hunger, infanticide, predator attacks were completely excluded. Now, who was betrayed???

these are only suggested activities... Most likely, there are no mandatory actions for active rescue of the black stork for the Karula yet... but I could be wrong...

relentless deforestation is a common misfortune, and so are fires... and urbanization, construction, which are stepping on the natural habitat of birds... How can we and should we help at least in the territories of nature reserves?

Yes, we expect to have a camera on a nest in the coming days, when Urmas can do it. Then we wait to see which birds arrive!

Hello to all! I would be so grateful, if the camera will be online soon. Unpatiently I await Karl II and Kati. Edi is on the way and also the female in one of the Polish nests has just arrive ..
