The Paltamo Osprey cam is open for the year, this year it is a live-cam

The male Penna usually arrives on 29th of April. Last year also the female, Miila, arrived the same day.

:hi: Ferenz

There is a nice WWF-osprey cam in Finland in the Saimaa lake district.
EDIT: there is a link (from an arrow) on the cam page to an info page - which is in Finnish.

There are already two eggs in the nest today.

Owlie, Ferenz

I discovered this nest two years ago, very sorry that I didn't write about it here,
but too much nests to watch :puzzled:
It is very nice placed in S-E Finland and seems happy, each year healthy chicks

Surprise > no Malin or dark headed female...
but a left leg yellow banded female arrived and the chief RL banded male mated with her. I am sure he & this new female will be the current breeding pair

Hi Ferenz :hi:

It seems the situation became a bit complicated ... and would it be a final ?
Ferenz, do you feel like a fairy godmother ? ;)
Let it be how you are saying :), let they be a pair of this nest, but may some calm and stability come in here !
Maybe this time and for longer ... :2thumbsup:
On Luotio forum it was said she's ringed in 2018 in Joutsa/Joutsassa in cenral Finland. And is it known who is the male, what is on his ring ?

What it could had happened to Malin, if she really was here ? ( sorry, now I have some doubts ... )
Why would she had abandon her nest, after two years, having here three eggs each year and such great, strong, sweet daughter Kari in the first ... ? And when it was probably her first years as mum - I still remember how often she avoided matings at first and how hard Olof had to work for those their first eggs ;), he was so patient and carying.
And now - if it really was Malin - is it a mismatch of characters with the autumn / current partner ... ? Did she tolerate him only for fish that he brought in late summer last year and didn't want him now as a father ? Does it happen in birds', ospreys' world ?
Or were there any fights between females, out of the camera, maybe ?
That could happen, females can fight very hard also, look please at this,

I like this nest very much and my dream is finally to watch happy season and at least three healthy juveniles ringed/banded and migrating to Africa :) and bonded parents returning here each year and for years ...

Some history year by year, in a table below:
https://saaristomeri.utu.fi/nest-project/

And to the Admins there my small wish - sound please ;)

Seili: No one knows if this new bonding will last this whole season. Unfortunately I can't read the number. There are lots of ospreys in the territory...

I think the Seili nest looks very unprepared for breeding and the season is rather late already ... :puzzled:

The Paltamo camera should be set on again on Monday - it is exciting to see if Penna and Miila have arrived.

If a little became hutilized, it is understandable when at the bottom is a big, slippery fish *** 7.30 just a moment after mating, the male turns to the nest *** Well, that little guy in Central Finland has started to feel comfortable in Western Finland, three years old, Joutsa 7/2018

https://luotio.fi/forum/viewtopic.php?f ... &start=210

Seili pair has still a lot to nestorate, meanwhile fish deliveries & mating business...

Paltamo kamera works again! There has been seen both male and female today, I cannot tell which one is in my pics - but the female has a ring according to Luotio comments. This one is anyhow bringing nest material all the time while I watch

... and digging the bowl - so this must be the male

EDIT: It is informed that the couple is the old Miila and Penna and they both arrived on 1st of May
