We are excited to announce that we have had our 200th chick fledge this year, on our 25th anniversary
The chick, a female, fledged in July on one of the nests situated on private land and was ringed with number 360 to identify her.
This is fantastic news for the project and we are delighted to have reached this incredible milestone! A massive thanks goes to our wonderful team of volunteers, staff, local landowners and supporters who have helped facilitate these incredible achievements. Here's to the next 25 years!

As many of you will know, we ring all Rutland-born Ospreys when they are around 6 weeks old. By reporting sightings to us, we can then build a picture of the birds' movements and behaviour.
The vast majority of the time, the news we receive is brilliant, but unfortunately, we also receive difficult news, which we have had recently. Read the latest blog entry, by following the link below, to find out what threats and dangers are still posed by Ospreys today, and how you can report Osprey sightings

We would like to say a big thank you to Valerie Webber who has been key at reporting many Osprey sightings to us over the years.

An exciting update about male S2(15), who is breeding over in the Netherlands at the Nationaal Park de Biesbosch. Big thanks goes to Rob Braat for sending us these fantastic images of S2 and his family!
Having bred for the first time last year with a German ringed female, S2(15) has had another great season, successfully raising two juveniles. Despite returning around the 28th March to find his nest had unfortunately been blown down in a storm, this didn't deter him from building a new nest nearby - he certainly takes after his father, 33(11)!

We have some really exciting news to share with you all!
30(05), who is one of our breeding females, has been sighted by Jean-Marie Dupart, in her wintering grounds along the coast near Diourmel, Senegal! It won't be long before she will be beginning her migration back to Rutland!
30(05) used to be fitted with a satellite tracker, however it stopped working during the breeding season in 2019 and it fell off during the following winter.
We would like to say a big thank you to Jean-Marie for allowing us to share these incredible photos, and also to Valerie Webber for getting in touch with us.

And the great news just keeps coming and can I say, what a way to kick off the 2022 Osprey season...
Male 055 (right), which fledged from the Manton Bay nest in 2019, returned to Rutland for the first time last year as a 2 year old, has been spotted at Viana do Costelo in Portugal! This is the first record we have had of 055 outside of the UK, so it is incredibly exciting to now know where wintering grounds are!

Well, what an incredible week we have had! The first of the Rutland Ospreys returned on Saturday 12th March, although their identity didn’t become known until a few days later, when we learned it was one of the breeding males from another of our nest sites, which is located on private land, 8F(12). 8F is a 10 year old male which fledged from the Manton Bay nest in 2012 and his parents are Maya and male 5R(04). This is one of the earliest records that we have of one of the Rutland birds returning!

Breeding male 33(11) has finally returned to his nest at 17:29 this afternoon and was soon joined on the nest by Maya! We really can't beat news like this to end a day
Thank you to Rob Persani from Rutland & Stamford Sound and all the others who got in touch.

Yesterday afternoon, some of our visitors were lucky enough to see Maya make a fishing attempt right in front of the visitor centre, which was absolutely fantastic! Unfortunately she was unsuccessful and flew off further down the south arm of the reservoir, but it wasn't long before she brought back this Trout, which she promptly took to one of her favourite perches, the fallen poplar. What a perfect end to the weekend!

Thank you seira for great news
Who would like to try to gues how many eggs will be this season and how many juveniles will finally migrate to Africa in late summer ?
Maya & 33 I wish you happy and succesful season, no bad events, and four healthy babies, four as usually.
I keep my fingers crossed for that
