As we await the Class of 2019 back, here is a quick update for you of all the Dyfi youngsters that we know have returned as adults so far:
CLARACH (Blue 2R, 2013): Bred in Aberfoyle, Scotland with unringed male in 2017. She's not been at the same nest recently - she may have moved on.
GWYNANT (Blue 3R, 2014): First spotted back in Wales in 2018 but not been sighted since.
MERIN (Blue W1, 2015): Breeding attempt in Jutland, Denmark 2018. Was unsuccessful but is now back in the UK (Cumbria).
TEGID (Blue Z1, 2016): Bred successfully in north Wales in 2020 with an unringed female; returned this year and is incubating eggs.
AERON (Blue Z2, 2017): Has eggs with Scottish-translocated Poole Harbour female (014) in the Glaslyn Valley.
DINAS (Blue KS6, 2018): Spent most of 2020 on Anglesey; has returned to the same location this year, courting a Scottish female.

In just a few seconds yesterday, Telyn and Idris nearly lost everything.
Even experienced parents can't take their eye off the ball; this time, luck was on their side 😮

Sad News.
Chick 2 has sadly died in the nest at 14:30 due to accidental suffocation at 8-hours old.
We anticipate that Telyn will remove the body from the nest at some point over the next couple of days.
Egg 3 is due to hatch tomorrow.
The first few hours of life are the most precarious and not all make it, unfortunately.
Let's hope we get two healthy chicks this year through to migration age and beyond 💔
