The votes are in!
The nestlings were recently banded and weighed (to determine sex, males are smaller). The results from oldest to youngest are:

Lassen = ZD = male (1,458 g)
Shasta = WU = female (1,780 g)
Tam = XV = male (1,412)

Wondering what the banding process is like for our 34-to-37-day-old nestlings? The banding manager at Golden Gate Raptor Observatory, Teresa Ely, has written an article that gives a glimpse into the process of how experienced raptor banders retrieve the nestlings from the nest situated 75 feet high on an old Whirley Crane, then safely band them.

Poppy Mod :
Please, check out Mrs. COM’s latest blog entry, and the updated nest history chart at the bottom of this featured comment: https://ospreycamerablog.wordpress.com/

Hello, Chesapeake Osprey Friends!

Today, I’m coming with an update from Mrs. COM:

Everything is status quo here at the secret location. When trying to repair the camera, COM found a piece of equipment that was burnt and melted. He thinks it was hit by lightning. He is working with Explore to try and get everything fixed. Tom and Audrey are around most of the time in the usual places, nest, camera pole, cross piece, swim ladder, electrical box, boat lift, scraggly stick tree and Joe’s big tree. There was an eagle hanging around today, I could hear it and then saw it flying by the nest with an osprey in hot pursuit! I have attached a little video of Tom and Audrey, complete with audio if anyone is missing Audrey’s melodious squawking.

:hi: Thanks Chimega for pointing out this nest - I guess there are no GHO's around. Do you know anything about this nest and its inhabitants or is it new to you as well?

Hi Rita,
It's new to me but one of the moderators of the Hog Island Facebook page watches it. It's on Long Island, New York and I believe there may be 2 different nests. But now I can't find the 2nd one. No GHOs!

Here's the link. They are eating fish right now!

Thank you, Rita! I knew I had seen another. I can't keep up with all these nests! LOL. There are so many and it really takes a lot of time to process photos and videos for each nest then sort, sort, sort everything into folders etc. :rotf:

Congratulations, Lassen, on a successful fledge! He left the nest confidently and spent about an hour on the Whirley crane's cables before returned safely to the nest.

Tam and Shasta are next up. Keep your eyes on the sky, nestlings!
