NOV. 17.

The young eagle Kim is dead.

Yesterday the GPS signal from Kim dissappeared from the GPS website.

And Kim was found dead near the nest.

Here the explanation from the WTE´s team in GT translation:

17-11-2020

The sea eagle Kim, from Lolland, is unfortunately dead, not very far from the nest where it was tagged earlier this year. The eagle will of course be autopsied in order to uncover the cause of death, but there is no immediate indication that it has died of unnatural causes.
We are of course very sad to lose one of the eagles in the project, but are at the same time grateful that the GPS transmitter allowed us to find it. That way we can better understand what the Danish sea eagles are dying from and in the end it can help us protect them.

So sad

We get perhaps knowledge if it was the bird-flu ...
Thanks for information. Soar free and fly high, dear little eaglet! :eagle: (Sorry for the Bald Eagle emoji, it is the only one I find with name "eagle")

The last data from Kim on https://www.dof.dk/naturbeskyttelse/arter/orne/gps-orn is from Nov. 8.

The Eagle Kim's last journey as it appears on the GPS.
It was around the nest at 7 o'clock in the morning and a few hours ahead. At 13.23 Kim was at Storager and at 13.55 at Lilleager. The day apparently ended very close to the nest at 15.19.

DEC. 8.

Romme is still in the nesting area. Made 2-3 short journyes East wards during autum. And that is it.
All other young eagles with GPS are not interested in their home nest any longer, and have found good food places at the shores.
Where they at the moment do not move around a lot.
This scap is a week old, but shows the present situation very well

It was sad and pity  . But thanks to GPS tracking the death cause could be soon diagnosed. And luckily the death was not caused by humans. I hope the Bird flu will diminish in the area and not spread out further!

2021
Happy New Year to all. Eagles included.
JAN. 4.
Romme is a the only Danish young eagle with GPS still around its own nest. We saw the same situation at Smøla in 2017:
The young eagle Solo left the nest area on Feb. 3. 2018. The male, Baron gave warning calls on the 2. and 3. of Feb. in the evening. And Solo left for good. But not that good, I think. To leave in the middle of the winter. Rommes moves from 28/12 until 1/1-21

Thanks, the same to you, albicilla!

The main thing is that Romme is healthy :D Also in SW Florida this year the eaglet E15 set a record in staying at home territory longer than any sibling. So it happens.

FEB. 19

The camera is now switched on and running-
All morning there has been some relaxed nestwork at home by both eagles

Since Jan. 19. Romme has been again in the nest area for some days. Obviously visiting the nest once. But has since then back in Northern Germany. More to the West this time.

Thanks, albicilla!

I just checked the cam page yesterday and read it would happen in the end of February, it is so nice that it is now! :D
The season can begin. Hope it will be successful. :2thumbsup:
Can you tell whether this is the same couple as last season or a new one? I see that some on the chat believe it is the same pair ...

A clear view even in the night :D
