FEB. 19.
On the 11. of Feb. the local breeding WTEs were seen close to nest. Reported at national data base - DOFbasen.
Next week the camera is supposed to send live to us.
Here is O F Larsens words about the travelling of young WTEs with gps transmittters in GT translation:
We once thought it was chicks from the shipowners who stayed long with their parents, but ringing and GPS transmitters have shown us something else.
After flying out of the nest, the young eagles stay in the area longer than we previously expected.
In turn, they then disappear completely during the fall. You can see on the map of the GPS eagles how some of them fly around. We now also know that the young eagles often clump together where there are good opportunities to get some food. This also means that they often seek out other adult / adult eagles than their parents, because there are often remains of the adult eagles to eat. Therefore, you can see young eagles all year round near nesting areas - also because the adult / adult eagles of course prefer to establish themselves in places where there are the best opportunities to find food. In this way, adult / adult pairs with nests will easily act as 'magnets' for young eagles. At Hyllekrog with the Eagle TV nest, there are often a number of young eagles. The place is closely connected to the Maribosøerne, where there are also breeding Sea Eagles and Fehmarn, which also have breeding Sea Eagles. In addition to the shallow bay at the nest, there is a system of elongated uninhabited islands and sand dunes between Hyllekrog on Lolland and the southern tip of Falster by Gedser. Thousands of birds and many seals rest and breed here. With so many birds and seals, there will always be some who are injured, old or weakened in other ways, and who are therefore light food for the eagles. From the bird station in Gedser, we can often see 8-9 eagles on Rødsand in a telescope, and there are probably more towards Hyllekrog.
The whole area is a bit of a 'supermarket' for Sea Eagles.
