Spring and summer in Finland 2013

Post by Felis silvestris »

It is April 1 and the spring has actually started, by calendar and also, even if we hardly can believe, meteorologically. I have asked Olga and she agreed, it is the time to start the spring and summer topic!

Dear Olga, with the growing spring and the soon coming summer I wish you all the best, a good recovery and rehab and lots of fun and nice times with all the squirrels and birds, Nanu and Nappu!

Thanks, Felis!

Black birds are singing. It's spring despite it does not feel a real spring yet, it' two cold!
I have to put here too the squirrel video of today, because I noticed something special on the right paw of the squirrel. She is careful with the paw and she keeps it in familiar looking way. Could it be possible that she is she 'Paula'?? Paula had an injury on her right paw for one year ago.

to day, the 1st April 2013:

...the injured paw seen well, she didn't use that paw almost at all by then:

In a part of the video I think she is holding her paw just like Paula, so it's very possible it's her. It means she does very well, despite her injury, and that she has came through this harsh winter.. :loveshower:
When I compare your videos from this spring and last year, it's a certain difference. There is a lot more winter this year.
You are so lucky to hear the blackbirds lovely song, I'm waiting for it too.
Thank you for the video, Olga, it is so nice to see the squirrels again

I am so :loveshower: to see two of the most familiar squirrels again!

Baby face in the morning:

Paula in the early afternoon:
The right paw has recovered, but it may be bit 'different' to an all healthy and never injured paw. She seems to be doing very well!

Both of them are really shy and cautious. It's alright, it's better that they keep on being wild. We do not know anything of the new neighbors who will move here in next summer. The first new house is almost ready, 350 m from our house, the other one 250 m far. Both houses are on the northern side of the hill and neither of them can't be seen from our house..

Today appeared a new squirrel. It seems to be young, but this is just an intuition. Think I haven't seen this squirrel never before. I tried to see is it a male or a female, but didn't manage. It is possible that it is one of the pups from last summer.

Anyway it can't be Paula, no Mops or Charley, or Oscar, not to talk about Baby face..no!

The new squirrel today.

The water had frozen in the night, but in the midday the temperature had reached +6 C and the ice has melted partly and the squirrel was able to take water!

How cute! And it looks still very young!

Grrr..photobucket has changed everything. Earlier it was possible to choose several pics at same time, and copy and paste each of them by one click. But now it has to take just one picture at time, copy/paste the IMG-link, then the other (do the same again: copy paste etc..), the third (click every step again and again). The old system was much faster.. :dunno:

 Manu, everything is alright here!

And Paula's paw is alright too. She climbs very fast to the roof.
I saw her climbing to the big spruce too, and each four of her paws work perfect! :loveshower:

It is wonderful that the squirrels are getting back in the visiting mode. Lovely to see both Paula and the new youngster.

One squirrel appeared yesterday in our forest too. It didn't take a hazel nut from my palm but got it from the snow and ran to dig it in. It was mainly gray but its back was getting reddish.

After she had left I took the frozen water and put new water for her. She returned in one minute!
She was waiting on the roof for the water!
