142.A good year for eagles. Austria, December 2016
According to the WWF press release, 188 White-tailed Eagles were counted in Austria and the neighbouring countries. 24 pairs raised in total 31 young in Austria. Also interesting: The GPS data from transmitter fitted birds showed that the young eagles stayed for several month near the nest where thy hatched. This had been unknown yet for the local WtE population. Youngster WTUS06, for instance, was located between May and September near his place of birth, the Danube-Auen National Park. Then he became adventurous and explored Slovakia within four or five days before he travelled to the Czech Republic. WTUS08 stayed at home until October and lives now near Zagreb, Croatia.
