Ornithological surprise: Triplets born on Smøla. Norway, July 2016
According to eagle expert Espen Lie Dahl, triplets are very rare in this region – he has visited around 2.000 breeding territories during the last 20 years and found three young White-tailed Eagles in one nest for the first time. The Norwegian Island Smøla has the world´s densest population of White-tailed Eagles.

Eagle released back to wild. Poland, July 2016
The exhausted adult bird was rescued last week. In the past 40 years the Polish White-tailed Eagle population has recovered well – from 80 to about 1000 pairs.

A WtE family could be observed near Helsinki this season for the first time. The White-tailed eagle population has also recovered well in this country: In 1973 only five chicks fledged.

The news that two rare white-tailed sea eagle chicks have successfully fledged after a roller coaster season is being celebrated on Mull. Both community-owned forest groups on the Argyll island have seen chicks leave their nests. 2 August 2016

Confirmed: White-tailed Eagle died from carbofuran poisoning. Germany, August 2016
The young bird died shortly after it was found unable to fly near Granskevitz on the island of Rügen in September 2015.

“White-tailed sea eagles have had a successful breeding season on the Isle of Canna, according the island's owners National Trust for Scotland (NTS). Two breeding pairs of the birds, which are the largest raptor species in the UK, are both rearing two chicks.”

“The chick was fitted with white wing tags and a satellite transmitter so staff at Forest Enterprise Scotland and RSPB Scotland could monitor its behaviour. Greenpeace vs. NABU. Germany, August 2016
The energy company Planet Energy plans to erect wind turbines in the Weser Valley, which is home to a White-tailed Eagle breeding pair and other rare birds. The case has led to heated discussions between members of the
Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union NABU and Greenpeace. Planet Energy is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Greenpeace Energy. Greenpeace Germany is one of the shareholders of Greenpeace Energy. According to NABU, the windmills are a threat for the eagles.

White-tailed Eagle attacks storks. Germany, August 2016
At the beginning of July an eagle attacked several times two young storks in a nest in the city of Burg (
Spreewald). According to the article, the parents tried to defend their offspring. Both young survived, but one was badly injured. It was taken to a Wildlife Center.

Only 12 White-tailed Eagle pairs in Slovakia. August 2016
BirdLife Slovakia reports that 12 breeding pairs were known in the country in 2015. Up to 7 pairs live in the Danube Plain (Danubian Lowland in Slovakia).
