I agree, Silke, Mart made no effort to take the fish.
Ivo even unhooked his claws from it, but Mart just ignored the fish.
So, Ivo decided that it was unwanted.

Once they have arrived in Africa, the young ospreys don’t return for the first three or so summers. However, once their hormones kick in and they are old enough to breed, they begin their return journey."
:hi: everyone and thanks a million for all the posts and photos, it has been a pleasure to be the fly on the wall so far :)

Thought I might share a bit of good news from the Finnish nests this summer. Martta (hatched in 2017 and wearing the rings), Alma and Ossi's offspring, visited the neighbouring camera nest late this summer. The male osprey on that nest was welcoming both mother Alma as well as Martta with fish, and next spring will be one interesting time for the observers to see who is going to be the lady of that nest :whistling:

... so there is a chance to see Nele, Pilvi and Mart within a couple of years again! :loveshower:

This is very interesting, jucoofy, thanks a lot! A competition and rivalry for the title "lady of the nest" between mother and daughter, this would be very unusual!

It seems, though, that the chances of seeing Nele, Pilvi and Mart are not that high. Generally, osprets return to new places and acquire their own territory. Scientists have noted that male ospreys tend to return to areas closer to their birth-place nest, yet most of the time they go somewhere else.

However, exceptions happen, of course. We might also one day see our osprets or the ones from the previous year, for example, in the Latvian or Finnish nests which have web-cams.
