This post does only partially fit into the documentation of our 'tracker-birds', etc. but it affects their migration in general, and, as loathsome and ugly as this gets, is part of the story.
Bad news. Not new to you who follow the birds, raptors and storks, on their migration. And you all know about the "Black Hole" in the Near East, if they fly the eastern route. The worst is yet to come for our brave birds. Just was informed by a tweet from Thomas Krumenacker:

https://twitter.com/thomaskrumenac1?lang=de
Quote: "Warning: Shocking content This video shows the horror of bird persecution happening right now in Lebanon, it shows why many of our migratory birds do never return, sent to me by @CABS_REPORTS
, activists try to free birds @BirdLifeEurope
@bmu
https://youtu.be/SrWmgyC4Jh4 via @YouTube

CABS (= Committee Against Bird Slaughter) activists are mostly German, so you will hear a German commentary, automatic subtitle translation in English is not perfect, but you will surely get it.

And if you read on the CABS reports on Twitter, https://twitter.com/CABS_REPORTS
you will come to this, https://twitter.com/CABS_REPORTS/status ... 9605292041
quote:
"CABS@CABS_REPORTS
24. Sep.
Stork shooting emerging on social media. Horrific. Account has been reported to @LebISF
hunting season has officially been suspended yesterday. Enforcement action must be taken against these crimes!! #Lebanon"

I would advise you NOT to watch the clip. I started and checked out after a few seconds. It makes you throw up.

:hi: Susanne,

yes - every year the same situation :-(
they have low, they have specialized police officers, volunteers, the president and his daughter were repeatedly addressed (including petitions) ...
e.g. experts - volunteers come from Poland to help with the education of children and young people

achieving change is a very long and difficult journey
Lebanon is the most famous, but most birds according to birdlife international are killed in the Mediterranean area

:hi: Good morning to Solo and Hellem and everybody else!
I have seen that there is actually a lot of work done by volunteers, activists, birdwatchers, etc. cooperating with local institutions and, simply: with people who live there and telling them about the miraculous journeys and the character of these birds - something which seems to work pretty well. -

By the way: My signature in another (pigeon) forum was: "People hate pigeons because 'they're dirty and spread disease;' but people do that too and pigeons don't hate us." (John Fuglsang, American comedian). What an elegant way to focus on a change of perspective regarding other species!

Susanne, thank you for your contribution.

Last but not least, dates defined over many years are not innocent and food for poachers.

Let us assume that birds recognize dangerous routes and then choose others ... what's the point. What if we lead poachers on current routes via our current official posts?

Since we can 'throw up' as we want - we lay the trail ourselves.
