UDU
Udu started to cross the Mediterranean Sea on
25.10 around
10:15.
S/he reached the Egyptian coast near Zawya Haroun on the same day around
18:15
That was very fast! S/he flew about
450 km in 8 hours !!! The average speed was
56 km/h
I see speeds over the sea between 28 km/h and 91 km/h. That's enourmous over the open water. But Udu had a very good tailwind that day!
S/he spent the night of the 25/26 in the desert, not very far from the coast, about 40 km to the south.
On the 26th s/he flew about
300 km further southwards over the desert, until s/he reached this area. It looks as if there is water in that area? What is this? Does anyone know?
Today, Udu flew less fast and covered about 170 km, first to the west and then to the southeast.
I think he must be extremely thirsty and tired by now and needs most of all fresh water and a good rest...
Please hold on, little Udu!
I hope you will still have enough strength tomorrow.
Near
Farafra s/he will certainly find water and possibly something to eat on the irrigated fields... Udu is almost there. (But nevertheless it is still about 50 km…) I hope s/he finds that place…
The
Farafra depression (Arabic: واحة الفرافرة, pronounced [elfɑˈɾɑfɾɑ]) is a 980 km2 (380 sq mi) geological depression, the second biggest by size in Western Egypt and the smallest by population, near latitude 27.06° north and longitude 27.97° east. It is in the large Western Desert of Egypt, approximately midway
between Dakhla and Bahariya oases.
Farafra has an estimated 5,000 inhabitants (2002) mainly living in the town of Farafra and is mostly inhabited by the local Bedouins. Parts of the town have complete quarters of traditional architecture, simple, smooth, unadorned, all in mud colour — local culture and traditional methods of building and carrying out repairs have been supported by its tourism. Often grouped within Farafra are the hot springs (hot sulfur springs !) at Bir Sitta (the sixth well) and the El-Mufid lake.
