KATRIN, morning update

Katrin is currently at the same location as yesterday late afternoon, on a creek in the fields southwest of Bergama.
This morning, she flew about 2.3 km, from her night area (near the village Armağanlar = same night location as on November 11th) back to yesterday’s spot on the creek (or is it a ditch?)
Battery level: 51%

There seems to be a lot of rubbish along the road.

KATRIN, morning update

This morning, KATRIN flew back to the same spot as yesterday, on a creek in the fields southwest of Bergama.

Total distance: 2.35 km
The battery level at 08:20 was 52%
Cloudy days. If the battery level drops below 50%, I think we will again receive fewer location points.

Katrin has been flying back and forth between her feeding place and her night place for several days now.

KATRIN, OrniTrack morning update

Battery status: 45%

This morning, KATRIN flew back to the same spot as yesterday, on a creek (or ditch) in the fields southwest of Bergama.
I suppose there is something tasty to catch in that place. :D

I will make a tracker map for the entire day after the evening data session.

:hi: Good evening!

I'm just wondering because It's just so weird that the connections of all black storks in OrniTrack and BirdMap are broken? No new data at all. In november only Eedi (november 13, Saudi Arabia), Katrin (november 23, Turkey) and Udu (november 11, Egypt) have sent us data. I think things have not been so bad in previous years, because after all (and for example) we were able to follow Maru's flight near the Nile in Egypt (Al Ballanah wastewater Ponds) since 01.11. 2018 to 25.02.2019, until she perished in a bullet and illnes. Even our brave Julge disappeared like ashes into the wind, even though, according to the latest data, she/he was in France, not in Africa.
Hopefully our birds are still well and okay!

So, I'm just wondering that what's wrong with the data-connections?

Hello Treia :hi:

First I would like to explain that the birdmap updates made by Urmas (if he has time for it), and the tracker maps we post here, are both based on the data retrieved by Ornitela (on their OrniTrack page). So if we can't report anything (about the BS with an Ornitela transmitter), neither can birdmap. (Some BS have a transmitter from another brand and aren’t on OrniTrack.)

Yes, it does seem that we are receiving less data this season.
I think for example of Timmu who sent data regularly from Ethiopia last winter and now nothing for quite some time already. I don’t know why.
Eedi used to be 'silent' every now and then in the past too. Maybe this winter more often than in the past years?
And Julge over France, well… who can say what happened? The connectivity in France is generally good. Did little Julge perish or is his transmitter faulty?
It is quite normal that birds will be out of contact starting from southern Sudan, or even already while flying over the western or eastern desert in Egypt. Only populated areas have GSM coverage in Egypt.

We can only hope that next spring they will all be back ‘on the radar’. For juveniles, it may even be late spring/early summer before they fly northwards again.

Hello everyone :hi:

Bigfan
Who knows what Katrin's plans are? :D
I am very curious to see whether she will stay there all winter, or at some time will migrate further south.

 Hi Anne,
Thank you for the clarification! At least, it turned out that the Tracker Map and Bird Map data comes from the same source, somewhere from Ornitela’s OrniTrack page, and in some way Movebank is apparently also involved. Admittedly I don't understand all the twists and turns, nor do I need to understand. :whistling:
