Re: Estonian Black Storks Migration 2021 from Birdmap

Post by Lusciniole »

:hi:
The two most reliable testimonials (the others were eccentric) don't say they saw a ring or a transmitter. They are people without binoculars, not observers. They reacted to the newspaper article and are sure they saw this bird. But we cannot validate:
-On 9/27, a black stork was reportedly seen in Loupeigne / Mareuil en Dôle (15 to 20 km east of Louâtre, south of the D83 road).
-On 4/10, s/he would have been seen southwest of Violaine (Fond Rimbert) by people working in a chicken farm, just to the left of where we lost her track: s/he was looking for food in a meadow.
To answer the question: can s/he find food? Richard says yes. In Loupeigne and Mareuil en Dôle, there are small ponds. Me, I find that the ecosystem is less interesting than Saint-Hilaire / Pontfaverger ... but I'm not a stork looking to eat
A member of the LPO who lives in Louâtre went to look at the property "Bois des Juifs" and they found nothing. But maybe s/he goes back there without anyone being there at the time.
I think that if s/he continued her/his migration, it's better for her/him but we will not be able to validate her/his presence. The newspaper article may have appeared a bit late but we couldn't do it any faster ...

JULGE

Again, no news of Julge.

It looks, from the Ornitrack control panel, that Katrin may not have sent data, but I will check again at the expected time of 22.18, UTC+ 3.

Hmm… Jo, I don’t know when exactly the data session occurred.
As you wrote that there were no new data, I wanted to take a look at Katrin’s last XYZ graphs.
I always worry a bit when a data session fails.
So I opened OrniTrack, about 30 minutes after you posted, and saw that Katrin had new data meanwhile.

OK. Good that we had new data. Could it have been an Ornitrack hiccup? The transmission happened so that was not the problem.
