Osprey Autumn Migration

After we saw our Estonian osprey Markus last on 13. September in Greece, short before crossing the Mediterranean Sea, he is back on the radar today, flying over Chad :D

Image

Markus is east of N´Djamena, the capital of Chad and he made 5617 kilometers until now
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%27Djamena

Image

Here are his previous routes over Chad, before crossing the borders to Central African Republic or Cameroon

Yes, amazing long distances. Using the example MARKUS, he made now 3006 km in 5 days (2611 km 13.09. - 5617 km 18.09.), makes on average about 600 km/day.
This was a determined flight, he surely wants to be soon in the "green area" with good food and water.

Currently only our new tagged osprey VIJA is not yet in the "green area". I'm also very curious where she will fly to to stay for the winter months.

the max. daily distance: 828 km

20. September

Osprey Autumn Migration 2019

The news about Elena from Belarus is, that there is nothing new about her :D

With the last data from 5. September we see her in the South of Sudan, with a total of 7282 kilometers.
She is probably already at or close to her wintering area from last year.
It must be a very "secret" area where there is no GSM coverage.
Also last year she went being silent for months, so we can assume that there is a similar situation now.

Meanwhile he is southeast of N´Djamena, the capital of Chad, and made 5981 kilometers

Maybe he plans to go fishing at River Schari, a river with a lot of windings and branch streams
