Wonderful Pikne crossed the sea! 178 km
...
Hello Heloise,

What we see on the maps can sometimes be deceptive. Only the location points are exact.
The lines are just a straight connection between two known points, but not (always) the real trajectory that was flown.
Because the battery level of Pikne's transmitter is so low, it sends very few location points (to avoid draining the battery completely).
In this case there is a ‘gap’ of 6 hours in between the 2 location points!
With an average speed of 40 km/h Pikne could have flown 240 km between these 2 points.

It seems more likely to me that s/he crossed the Gulf of Iskenderun.
Image

It is even possible that s/he flew all the way around the gulf. We just don't know.

I hope very much it ended well
For me it is the wrong way. With luck, Udu will choose Crete and try to fly east across the islands towards Turkey
...
Me too, Liz :hi:
I hold my breath for Udu.
I can't forget what happened to Päike.

Edit:
What gives me some hope is that Udu did not fly over (the wide part of) the Gulf of Corinth yesterday. It looks like s/he flew around that gulf. S/he seems to avoid longer flights over the water...
Maybe Udu wants to see the far shore before flying across the water?
Perhaps s/he will realise that there is no safe way south, and will criss-cross Greece in search of a good feeding ground? I hope that fear and prudence will be stronger than the urge to fly south…
We’ll see.

Ou no little Udu!
Why on earth did she/he have to fly there? :(
Hope she/he turns back, or finds Crete!

Still in flight, heading towards Gesher
Image

Gesher (Hebrew: גֶּשֶׁר‎, lit. Bridge) is a kibbutz in the Beit She'an Valley in northeastern Israel. Founded in 1939 by Jewish refugees from Germany, it falls under the jurisdiction of Valley of Springs Regional Council. It is situated 10 km south of kibbutz Deganya Aleph and 15 km south of Tiberias (on the west shore of the Sea of Galilee). The population is approximately 500 inhabitants.

Pikne is very close to Tirat Zvi now. But most probably father Karl left that area today and is meanwhile hundreds of kilometres further away…

UDU's current area, near the northern shore of the Laconian Gulf:

The Laconian Gulf (Greek: Λακωνικός Κόλπος, romanized: Lakonikos Kolpos), is a gulf in the south-eastern Peloponnese, in Greece. It is the southernmost gulf in Greece and the largest in the Peloponnese.
In the shape of an inverted "U", it is approximately 58 km wide east-west, and 44 km long north-south. It is bounded to the west by the Mani peninsula, which separates it from the Messenian Gulf, and to the east by the Cape Maleas peninsula (also known as the Epidavros Limira peninsula), which separates it from the Aegean Sea. To the south it opens onto the Mediterranean Sea. The Mani and Cape Maleas peninsulas are dry and rocky, but the northern shore, fed by the Evrotas River, which empties into the gulf at its apex, is fertile farmland. The island of Elafonissos lies in the Laconian Gulf, with the island of Kythira directly to the south. The main ports and settlements on the gulf are Gytheio and Neapolis.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laconian_Gulf

The Eurotas or Evrotas - In modern times, much of the river water is used for irrigation, with the result that the Eurotas is almost dry during the summer months. The waters of the Eurotas are used to irrigate mainly citrus crops, for which Laconia is famous. The plain of Elos near the river's mouth is particularly fertile farmland.
In the winter months, the Eurotas is prone to flooding. On 24 November 2005 heavy floods damaged buildings and stranded automobiles in the streets, and harmed orchards, including the valley's famous orange and olive groves. The floods affected many villages along the valley as well as the town of Gytheio; 170 km2 of land was ruined.
Currently the nitrate waste from fertilizers is polluting the river, aggravated by diminished flow because of the irrigation demands on it.

I might be way off here, but could this mean Päike also successfully crossed the Mediterranean and that the tracker just stopped sending data?

Oh well, well NEVER know until a bird with the rings is found.
