WOW, Jo, our KARL II was really busy!
He is finally travelling on and is already almost in Romania. This year, his path does not go through Moldova.

Karl II flew 421 km today!

He is a little bit north of the village Kam'yanka, Odessa Oblast in Ukraine, at about 30km from the border with Romania (the Danube)





Apparently Kam'yanka is in a vineyard area.

JO UK, so even the Swiss KARL watch is not perfect. This year they were delayed by 5 days. But maybe Karl was waiting for Uda. That's nice of him. So happy flight.

Yes, I know, bigfan, it is hard to witness the loss of so many Black Storks.
And it's even more painful when we know them well.
We've watched the storklets grow up on the nest, day by day.
I will always remember each and every one of them.

Hopefully Udu and Pikne will be lucky.
Hopefully we'll see Karl II and Kaia reappear safe and sound on the nest next spring.

Our KARL II is a few kilometers across the Bulgarian border, near the village Abrit

Abrit (historical name: Aptaat) is a village in Krushari Municipality, Dobrich Province, northeastern Bulgaria.
Abrit Nunatak on Trinity Peninsula in Antarctica is named after the village.
The village has a population of 205 inhabitants, out of which 144 (70.2%) are Bulgarian Turks, 35 (17.1%) Roma and 26 (12.7%) Bulgarians, according to the 2011 census.
Near Abrit is located the medieval fortress Zaldapa, which lies next to the lake Zaldapa.

I read that there’s a moderate wind today in Udu's area, coming from the NW and the West. It will be cloudy all day and there were a few showers in the morning. Visibility 10 km. I think it should be possible for Udu to fly southeast this afternoon, following the southern edge of the Balkan Mountains in the direction of Sofia in Bulgaria. If he/she intends to do so...
