ARU

Mencas = Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) - see also https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/menca

Mencas is a lake in Lithuania, in Trakai district, 8 km north of Trakai. The length of the lake from north to south is 0.46 km, width - up to 0.21 km. In the southern part of the lake is a marshy island of 0.74 ha. The shoreline of the lake is very winding. The shores are mostly high, only the southeast shore is low and marshy. Rykantai forest is accessible from the north, meadows on other coasts. There are villages of Senoji Būda (Old Būda) and Būda I near the lake. The lake is non-draining and belongs to the Bražuolė basin of the Neris tributary. (https://lt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mencas)

Our little Aru :loveshower: I was so happy when I looked at bird map yesterday evening. Finally he made up his mind and headed southwards :chick:

Our little ARU has been flying on. He/she is in Belarus now, near Zhirmuny.
This is his/her complete flown track today.

ARU had breakfast on two locations close to the night area.

Here is a picture of that area. You can see the little island in Lake Šulininkų.

After breakfast 2, Aru started to travel at about 09:45:42 (UTC+3)
But a little north of Žaizdriai, he took another break, between 10:05:34 (UTC+3) and 10:40:34 (UTC+3).
A third breakfast? :D

After his/her 3rd breakfast, ARU continued a non-stop flight southwards. :2thumbsup:

At about 13:15 (UTC+3) — speed 50 km/h and altitude 544 meters — he crossed the border and arrived in Belarus.

He flew in this direction towards the border:

At 14:00:34 (UTC+3), ARU arrived at this little lake (or pond) near Skorvody.
Image

At 20:15 (UTC+3), he/she is still in the same little lake/pond.
Image

Most probably Aru will spend the night in this area.

Good evening,

Anne, many thanks for the update from Oru and especially for the detailed and interesting pictures and reports from our little Aru! :2thumbsup:
I am very glad that Aru is now really - apparently determined - flying south. :headroll:
Today it were certainly again many kilometers. I am curious about the Birdmap update.
Fingers are crossed that Aru can continue his journey successfully. :2thumbsup:

Thank you for the tracker maps, Jo!

Birdmap update ARU

Last data: 12.09.2019
Distance: 953 km (+ 85 km in 1 day)
.
Today Aru has crossed the border between Lithuania and Belarus. He is now a bit north of Lida, Belarus.

Aru has not flown so many kilometers as it looked to me in the tracker map. I think it's good that he doesn't overtax himself with his possibly not yet fully recovered wing.

The pond Aru has found, looks really nice. There must be a lot of fish as one can see in Arus movings in the last hours in the tracker map. :D

View to north, viewing height is 5,27 km.

Thank you Anne, Jo, Michi, Sova, Hellem and all for the tracker maps and of course all other maps and explanations to feeding stops etc.

It makes me very happy seeing ARU flying so well, those distances and in the right direction.
S/He is clever to stay and take a rest for him and his wing at this inviting place at the pond, after this long flight. If ARU keeps this direction s/he will be in the middle between ORU and Eedi and that makes me very confident.

ORU makes me smile, always returning to sleep in his/her tiny forest :innocent:

Both seem to be successful in finding food, they must have an angel flying with them.
