Tonight it's Dad's turn to stay with the kid. Good night to them :offtobed:

5 March

01:21 It is Dad who is spending the night with the chick

10:26 And now it's back to Mom: "Who the heck is flying over my head!"

11:23 Here's a new strategy from the chick: pecking at the base of Mom's neck
Image

11:24 The strategy produces the desired result - Mom's extended and gently arched neck is a sure sign of yummy things to come
Image

11:25 So why not give it another go? Previously I had seen the chick peck at the adult's beak, targeting mainly the tip, or just put his/her own beak up and then open it like a pair of shears or like the pincers of a crayfish (and possibly yelp) in expectation. Today was the first time I saw it deliberately peck and even tug at the base of a parent's neck to solicit a meal

13:19 One for the album
Image

13:39 A delightful temptress (with a chick at her feet)
Image

13:40 Time to do some stretching. The chick, facing the wall behind the nest, is stretching too - his/her right wing is clear to see

Hi Marbzy :hi:

Thank you for your continuous, summarizing and meaningful reports about this nest. Very much appreciated!

I had to be away for a while, due to an emergency case with my mother ...

Hello, Bea :hi:

No worries as far as my reports are concerned, I just wish I were able to follow the nest more closely and to make videos. The latter is unfortunately not on option on weekdays, while weekends can in fact be even worse in this respect. Tomorrow, for example, I'll be very lucky if I manage to capture any images during the day.

I sincerely hope you and your mother are fine now. All the best to both of you.

6 March

Today was very windy.

12:14 First, Mom had taken over from Dad

12:52 Then the wind picked up

13:09 Whichever way you turn...
Image

13:48 Mom's attempts to feed the little one were rather unconvincing
Image

13:53 Having performed rather badly at feeding, she just lay down on the chick (but it must have been a good few degrees cooler today)

14:16 Ladies and gentlemen: here's T49, a little ruffled
Image

14:17 Just to dispel any doubts: T49 and his wing tag (and his impressive white neck ruff)
Image

15:20 He's not enjoying the wind, either

15:28 Dad, is this the best you can manage?
Image

15:30 Seriously hungry, aren't I?
Image

15:31 I'm honestly not sure if the parents were able to provide as much food today as in the previous days

15:33 It seems to have been a lean afternoon
Image

15:34 Why don't I just make the kid shut up by sitting on him?
Image

And then Mom arrived just before 6 pm. She replaced Dad and went on to feed the chick for a few minutes (no images, unfortunately). A lean afternoon turned into a (not very) fat evening.

22:55 And Mom is duly staying with the kid tonight
Image

Let's hope for a plentiful supply of food tomorrow.

Good night :offtobed:

Here's one shot captured this morning featuring Mom at 08:02
Image

There must have been an odd number of changes, probably only one - Dad will have started his around 4 pm and is still with the chick now
20:51 Image

I was able to check on the nest a few times during the day, but did not witness any events worth reporting. The wind has died down and the weather has generally improved. A fair bit of sunshine and temperatures of more than 20 degrees centigrade are forecast for the next four days, too, though they will keep dropping to under 10 degrees at night.
