20:53 Covering this nest has become a black-and-white experience...

I'm disappointed not to be able to track the chick at daytime. I'll keep documenting what can be documented until the nest is abandoned. Following the Egyptian vulture nest could also be a rewarding experience, but not one I would feel prepared for.

My disappointment is aggravated by the experience of listening to a harrowing series of dry grunting noises produced by the chick three days ago. The camera was focused on the Egyptians' nest, but having heard the griffon chick make these type of noises before, I knew that the chick was suffering from intense heat (the time was between 2 pm and 2:30 pm). Would it have helped if I'd been able to look and capture a few more screenshots? No.

Shortly after 2:30 pm the heavy grunts ceased, perhaps one of the parents had come to shield the chick from the sun, as has been documented here over and over again. Would it have helped if I'd been able to look and capture a few more screenshots? No.

Drained.

I'm just saying the chick turned its head .... :)

Grunt noises are strange, but they can certainly be normal. My dachshund does it even if it processes odors intensely and forgets to breathe. :slap:

:hi: Polly. My choice of words may have been a bit unfortunate - I wasn't worried because of the noises (which communicated discomfort rather than suffering), but I meant to say that it felt odd to be watching one nest and hearing noises coming from the other. I'm not going to deny having developed a personal attitude to the little griffon and his/her parents, but I guess it shouldn't affect my comments so much.

16:57 The chick seeks and finds a makeshift shelter (according to the forecast, the temperature is in the mid-30s, so it will probably feel more like quite a few degrees over 40)
