Re: Uhu Webcam (Germany, Eifel) 2021
I spent the last week away from internet coverage. The last time I watched a live stream before I left, Stefan was just finishing ringing the owlets. Today, after returning home and turning on the camera, I found that the nest was empty. I started reading the forum. It was a shock!
I was devastated and didn't even dare to watch Bea's videos
It has been the worst ever since I started following this nest in 2013. Even when the chicks were starving during rainy weather and Stefan saved the last one and delivered food, it was not so depressing.

I've been watching this nest for 2 months.
I saw it live that night; ((
I was hoping that the younger uhu would survive the lotta help him.
I can't see pictures of these young birds because everything comes back
I want to strangle that raccoon.

I am soooo sorry that you saw it live! I got stuck at work late that day and NORMALLY would have been watching the cam right as it was happening but I was late to get dinner started...thankfully missed it live that evening. I feel like the little one did not know what was going on....I very much wish that Lotte could have come home in time to at least save one of the owlets :( I have a photo album full of screenshots on my phone that I cannot look at yet...I also want to strangle the raccoon! However, I am counting down the days until we can enjoy the owlets again next year...hoping for a better outcome.

I'm afraid that when the raccoon began to breed there, it may happen again in a year ;((
I will be afraid to watch it live. I look and there is nothing I can do ...

I miss the owlets. They were so cute.
I hope next year is a better year for Lotte and Leo.

Yesterday, 29. May, a busy birdie was collecting interesting things on the ledge .... first I thought it was a Wagtail, because it moved its tailfeathers like a Wagtail, but color of its plumage didn´t fit.
Maybe it was a Gebirgsstelze / Grey Wagtail (Motacilla cenerea)?

What I see on the news of the floods in Belgium and West Germany is terrifying.
From the maps I can see that the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, i.e. where Lotte's nest is, is badly damaged.
My thoughts are with the inhabitants of this state, I feel very sorry for them.
I hope both the German forum members and Stefan Brücher are safe

Hello Mamicja and everyone!
Yes, it´s terrible what´s going on in this part of Germany and its neighbour countries in the west
Currently it is written that 130 persons died in the floods and it might be not the last news about it ...
This is how it started under our owl cam here on Wednesday, the cam was focussed on the street underneath the ledge and the street was flooded within minutes, in the first picture one can still see the white stripe along the road towards the river, in the last picture it was already flooded

Around 19:54 a big red container came floating down the river and for a moment it got stuck at the bridge.
First I thought it would go over the bridge, but no - the power of the flood forced it to go through under the bridge

Around 20:13 this cube shaped container slipped from the roof of the construction container at the right side, the construction container is also already quite unstable

These are the last 10 minutes of the cam working, after that the connection broke, probably due to the loss of electricity and internet connection.
The construction container right side also started to float and was taken away by the river .... and other items had stranded along the street ....
I really hope inhabitants of the little village under the ledge are safe and sound - and also people from EGE Eulen, I suppose they also live in the areas around the river Ahr.
It is a disaster.

Dear Bea .... thank you very much for the videos.
In the last few days my thoughts have often been in this area (because I know through Lotte's nest, where the Ahr flows)
I hope for all people, not only in this area, that the whole thing comes to an end. Hopefully there won't be more victims ... poor people ...

Some months ago I think I posted a link to the trailer for this film, full version is now available since a few weeks.
An impressive, nearly 30-minute documentation about Stefan Brücher´s work with Eagle Owls (from Sonia M. Weinberger & Stefan Brücher), spoken text is in German only, but most of the time pictures speak for themselves.
N°3 Ringe, Regen und kleine Uhus (Rings, Rain and little Eagle Owls)
I like it so much when he always leaves the nests after ringing with the wish for a long life to the owlets
A film to help bridging the times without the camera here .... it still might take quite a while until there is a possibility to continue the stream ....
