Lotte delivers some small prey, must have been something like a little mouse or so, older owlet can get it

No more night reports from me, unfortunately my recording froze again at 02:47 :bash:
Looks like I have to set an alarm clock to 3 o´clock in the night, to check and start recording new when necessary :faint:

Soooo tired ...

13:54
Dozing and cuddling

Today it is better to stay close and warm to each other, saving energy.
An empty belly gives not enough energy for walks on the ledge and wing exercises ...

May 25

Finally food, muskrat! This feeding was certainly a strain for Lotte, as hungry as the two of them were.

Corvids announced Lotte - she is coming in with a muskrat, finally food for the owlets!
In the beginning every owlet tries to claim the muskrat for itself, but Lotte intervenes
At the end of the feeding older owlet stores the muskrat in the hind larder, just like Lotte would do
I am convinced that older owlet is a female :D

Lotte starts a second feeding from the muskrat, it is a very looong feeding, I´ve cut the video in two parts

With the end of the feeding Lotte carries the leftovers of the muskrat to the upper larder,
which is no very safe place any more, since both owlets can climb up to that place

The muskrat was eaten whole :whistling:
Lotte takes the muskeat out from the pantry and older owlet grabbs it

Lotte returns (I think she had no new food like mouse or so with her) and she fetches the muskrat from the upper larder.
Older owlet claims the muskrat immediately for itself and is not willing to share it

17:06
Older owlet continued self-feeding and Lotte went out to the ledge, a complaining and hungry younger owlet followed her

Lotte walks back to the nest and wants to get the muskrat - but older owlet defends the muskrat vehemently against Lotte!
Younger owlet gets a chance to eat from the muskrat and is also self-feeding :D

17:30
Lotte waits a while during younger owlet´s self-feeding and then starts feeding both owlets.
Older owlet swallows the tail of muskrat in the end. I think there is only small piece of the muskrat left, in the hind larder

26. May

Not much to report about from last night.

02:30
There was a possible delivery from Leo on the ledge, to the older owlet.
Leo can be heard hooting soft

03:58
Lotte arrives on the ledge and I think she delivered a little birdie or so, to the older owlet.
She had some sticky feathers on her beak

Owlets were often out of cam view tonight, so there could have been more deliveries, but I doubt that.
And there was no sign that there was delivery of a bigger piece of prey.

Owlets noticed some big buzzing bug, it landed in the corner of the right side larder.
Younger owlet even had to have a closer look at it and went to the corner, observed the bug and I think later, in cam zoom, also nibbled or touched it with its beak  Don´t know what was the final fate of the bug

27. May

It is sad to say, but it was another night without deliveries.
Owlets were in cam view most of the time, but I noticed no Lotte or Leo coming to them

Thank you, Bea.

It is so sad and so difficult for me to watch them this season. Sо very hard that I ve stopped to watch cam during weekend, just checking on Monday if they are still alive... and unfortunately all these problems continue.
I dont understand why.
I am almost sure now that the place (forest and vineyards) is not suitable for EEO. Because I cant imagine that 2 owl parents would ignore their ofspring.

:puzzled:

15:03
Older owlet was in the nest cave, younger owlet out on the ledge.
Younger owlet walked back to the nest and one can hear beak clapping and hissing, maybe older owlet woke up and was surprised and scared for a moment?
Cam operator was, however, zooming over the forest under the ledge and to the opposite ridge .... :puzzled:

Lotte (?) landing on the ledge over the owlets, I suppose it was her shadow that one can see and her a call could be heard also
