Carson, remaining eyass, falls from the nest. But he is ok and down below in the bushes. Parents are feeding him, there. Cause for the fall is probably from being unsteady but black flies are a terrible problem in all nests here in the US right now and many young are falling from their nests to try to get away from the terrible non-stop biting.
The 1st chick, Kira, died when a Great Horned Owl attacked the nest around 2:30am and tried to remove her from the box. The attack killed the chick.

Oh boy! I only read your post... without watching videos. The same situation again??? The little one jumping down the nest box because of flies? Horrible. It was a kind of drama last season... and here we are again. And I cant even think about GHO attack. Never been before in the last seasons! Poor birds.

Yes, GHO attack. I don't have that video ready and don't know if I will post it. The GHO flew right into the box and grabbed the chick by the head. Michelle was not in the box at the time but she flew in and screamed and screamed in the GHO's face. The look on that GHO was like it could not believe Michelle was attacking it like that. Michelle did attack it, too, and the GHO finally let go and flew away. Poor chick died, though. I think the GHO either broke her neck or crushed her skull. Terrible
And, yes, this last one (there were only 2 this time) was being bothered by the black flies. They have been horrible in all nests this year because of the constant rain which helps them breed more. But, I think the chick lost his footing and fell by accident. The parents are taking care of him in the bushes or brush on the side of the bluffs so far. Keeping fingers crossed he will survive. A raccoon was in there checking him out last night or this morning. Not good. Racoons will kill chicks and eat them.

I would like to remind you about Peregrine Falcons from FalconCam Project Orange NSW. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNkiXq ... xp_QIGK4nQ
Diamond and Xavier are still present despite the winter. I saw snow on this camera for the first time!
Spring is approaching in Australia, and Xavier is constantly bringing starlings for Diamond. But Diamond doesn't like them.
