Best opportunity to watch virtual on-going season's development in colours - please have a look on
http://www.yankeefoliage.com/live-fall-foliage-map/.
Here you have a map of the U.S. (sorry, not entire Northern America) with the development of the leaves - much functions and to be used like other Google maps, too.
I think it'll be valid year after year, as people are asked to report actual progresses.
I came over this link recently, as the New England state was introduced to a TV travelling programme.

Animal Diversity Web

ADW is an online database of animal natural history, distribution, classification, and conservation biology at the University of Michigan.

Animal Diversity Web Has
· Thousands of species accounts about individual animal species. These may include text, pictures of living animals, photographs and movies of specimens, and/or recordings of sounds. Students write the text of these accounts and we cannot guarantee their accuracy.
· Descriptions of levels of organization above the species level, especially phyla, classes, and in some cases, orders and families. Hundreds of hyperlinked pages and images illustrate the traits and general biology of these groups. Professional biologists prepare this part.

If you need to have orientation with the different time zones - sunrise, sunset, full moon and more - here is a very helpful website:
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/a ... html?n=242
(You can replace Tallinn with any other city)
The more northwards in Europe you come, the shorter from September on the daylight hours are - but the longer brightness in summer is maintaining.

A searchable map of Estonia
http://kaart.postimees.ee/

- with some hesitation and reservations.

Crash guide to use:
Otsi (top right corner, right of "Eesti kaart") - Search
Mostly, pick first option under Kohanimed in answer list, click on arrow to right to have it marked on map (starts with very close-up view).
kohanimed - place names; linn - city, town; küla, alev - village; tee, maantee - road; tänav - street

I am not much good at - or patient enough - to use Google map features. This rather nicely picks out a place, and I can quickly see where in Estonia it is too.

Some drawbacks:
1) Estonian only. I have tried to use it imagining that I don't know Estonian, works reasonably.
2) & more serious: mainly an address pointer map, so search function refuses to find large general objects, as the lake Peipsi, directly. You have to pick something that hopefully is there or nearby
3) Popular name - which of several places is "mine"?
4) Finicky about correct spelling

EDIT: It is of course basically Google maps! When I last had a look at Google Maps and Earth, they were much more complicated, and computers less clever.
