(I didn't scroll back - I don't want to see this sad accident.)

I stopped yesterday following this nest - to me feeding by the NF Missy worked not (pantry wasn't full - one fish, one old squirrel, ... is that the "old" Berry male - "Pa Berry" ?)

I'm afraid I have sad news - I don't know all the details, but saw on a Facebook page that the little one got out of the nest cup while being fed and ended up at the edge of the nest. It sounded as if the young female may have pecked at it, not recognizing it was a chick - and then she resumed incubating the egg, leaving the chick out in the rain. Dad tried to cover it and may have tried to push it back towards the nest cup, but that didn't work and he's left now, and it's night, and the little eaglet is at the edge of the nest.

This is from 5:39 pm, and from what I read from observers, I think this is Dad feeding the little one, while the new female is working on the nest cup and covering the egg.

He looked and discovered both eggs :innocent: Rolled them and took his place on them.

B14 has passed away
Something similar happened in this nest before, in 2016

One of the eaglets was pulled out of the nest bole when Mom got up this morning. Some of the nesting material was stuck to Mom's talon and brought baby along. After several attempts (hard to move a squirming baby with a sharp beak and talons) to get the baby back into the bole, Mom tried to settle down over the other eaglet but you could tell she was uncomfortable with the situation. Dad, the ever great parent comes to the nest and after observing what was going on took the little one under him and kept the baby warm. Mom and Dad both brooding on the nest, protecting their precious babies. After Dad left, Mom was able to scoot the little one back under her.

Solo thank you for reporting from The Sauces Eagles, I like that nest very much. Audacity aka A-48 have lost many eggs (all broken because the shell was to thin). In this area and water gives it still problems with DDT. Audacitys body reacts most likely very sensitive through all the years.
It makes me always sad, when I see she lost again eggs. I really hope that one hold.

Berry College is also an sad nest the last years and this season again... :faint:

DDT and its metabolites cause eggs to have thin shells and reduce levers of a hormone necessary for female birds to lay eggs.
finger crossed for this pair!
