MN DNR Twin Cities:
Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota Metro Area - The New Pair

Seventh season

November 13, 2019

The "New" Pair has taken up a comfortable residency at our EagleCam nest. They have stayed around the nest area all summer, adding and rearranging sticks on a frequent basis and sharing meals together. They seem to always be together. Almost always, when one bird shows up, the second is not far behind.

The current pair has been distinguished from the pair, or at least the resident female, by several physical features. One obvious feature is that neither of the new birds is banded. This pair also shows some behavioral differences as well. They seem very bonded to each other, spending most of their time together - showing fondness for each other and sharing food commonly.

Dad flew away. After another bath the subadult flew off too and a Juvenile landed near the brook on a fallen dead tree
Image

I did not cut the video. It took 18 minutes! It seems they do not feel the cold. I could not bathe for 18 minutes in an icy stream. :whistling:

Thank you, Ferenz, for sharing these pics and information with us.

I follow the live cam and the chat of Jackie and Shadow from Big Bear. They are an awesome couple. This nest is a real construction site. On the chat they bet on the number of sticks they bring in.

I didn't know the Colorado nest yet - but I will have a look and follow this one, too.
