It breaks the heart ... .

In some animals, instincts seem to be very strong.
While many of us (me too!) break through our feelings in such situations. I always hope that animals don't feel as we do.

But the subject is very irritable. I know. There will never be certainty whether animals feel or just follow instincts.

I feel for me and such pictures hurt.

Are buzzards smarter than white-headed eagles? Their egg didn't hatch in time, the parents flew away, and the egg was taken by the marten

Have a good rest and maybe you will start again. This area is very unfavorable due to the weather. Unthinkable if there were chicks in this nest again in this horrible weather.

BIG BEAR

FB Friends of Big Bear Valley and Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam info

".... The nest is empty tonight except for the unhatched eggs. Jackie and Shadow have given up their vigil. They gave it their all. As sad as this is for all of us to finally let go, now Jackie and Shadow can move on with whatever they will do next. We'll have to watch and see what that might be.

BIG BEAR - MARCH 15th

Yes! finally  Yesterday during the day they tried to let it go in the early afternoon, later they left and didn't come back.

So sad for them.

In the morning, 08:45 the Crow or Raven, arrived for breakfast, it ate both eggs :vangry: .
I'm sure that the professionals there had plans to examine the eggs.

It'll be interesting to see if and when our couple will be back

18:22 An eagle landed with wet hay; Jacky looked at the damaged eggs, then took one eggshell and jumped to the hidden branch on our right side. She looked sad.
after a while she came down to the nest, checked around, covered the nest and the second egg with the hay and flew away at 18:27

18:29-30 I heard some calls from far. It was a sad episode.

BIG BEAR - March 17th, 2020:

I am very happy that the raven ate both eggs, hopefully he did not have any digestion problems due to the fact
that the eggs were so old - so both eagles are freed of this burden. Life can go on for them now.

Apart from this, from what I know from the BB chat, the professionals there had no intention ever to examine the eggs.

There are some videos about Fiona, the flying squirrel, scampering about the nest and examining the egg shells. Sooo cute to watch.

March 17th

14:21 Jacky came for a short visit. Nest was covered with fresh snow.

She tried to look for the eggs. On arrival she started digging where the bowl was. She found nothing.

14:28 She flew away after sitting on the veranda for a while.

Rita, about the eggs, I wrote it because I saw it in other nests in previous years. They were able to learn about the eggs and reasons for this situation.

It's not too late for a second clutch, I hope she'll be lucky like Harriet
