This is an old video still (May 29) but I think it is worth showing.
The young are waiting for help with a bird earlier brought by the male when the female arrives with a Birch branch to furnish the nest.

Hagnat wrote:That is what I mean. Sexing somebody on the seat of its pants is not always reliable. In the past is was easy: when it wore pants it was a male, no matter what the seat looked like. Still earlier males wore no pants but always a big club, while dragging a female to a cave. :-)
Oh Hagnat, I'm afraid, you missunderstood me completely, because my English is too bad!
I was joking!!!
With "by the seat of my pants" I meant "using my instinct" or "gut instinct". I looked for the Dutch translation for the German "Bauchgefühl", but there seems to be none. :help:

I understood perfectly well what you meant and I made a joke with it. In Dutch it is something like 'onderbuikgevoel' or, 'met de natte vinger'

a bit late, but if here's still somebody who's interested - the news from the lab are, that this year's chicks appeared to be males.
Whether by DNA or by the bottom of their pants, thanks to savvy we know now that our Maret is no Maret. Any suggestions about changing that still?

And to savvy thanks for the news, here and in the Black Storks forum!

If they are ever seen and identified again their names will be L-41054 and L-41055.
And if they are ever seen nesting in front of a webcam they will probably get a different name, because it will be almost impossible to read the rings.

I would suggest we stick to Juta's suggestion and just change one letter and not a whole name! And those who want to use numbers or "big" and "small" can still keep to that.

I tried to explain that they probably never will be called by name again, whatever name one likes to use, so discussing about proper and 'improper' new names is pretty useless.

That's also my opinion.

Yes, the names do not have much importance, but for sake of tradition of Looduskalender, for "the record" (if one may say so), Juta´s proposal is the best.

The camera is working again and there is sound! But whether it is real sound or just noise I cannot make out.
edit: no sound, just soft noise.

Is there any news on the Buzzard camera? It must be time for the birds to start working on the nest.
