"I have just learnt from one of my friend the interview with Mait was shown in Czech TV a few days ago! And I missed it "
Czechs are second only to Estonia in Pig camera hit statistics, and now the TV interview. How come, why do you think, how has the interest spread - newspapers, Internet ...? Verlit - others?

No idea, actually :puzzled: I got the link to the cameras and forums through Czech webforum I often attend, where one of the discussion groups is about animals. How did the person who posted the link find out about it, I don´t know. It was certainly before the interview and information appeared on TV, though.

The trees look more isolated than I might have guessed -- I mean there is space around them. Now it seems all full of leaves.

Nature cameras were voted as THE "Estonian Matter (or Thing) 2011" - "Eesti Asi" - with 40,8% of all votes cast in a poll arranged by newspaper Eesti Päevaleht, EPL. :2thumbsup:
http://www.epl.ee/news/melu/palju-onne- ... d=63239026
Nature cameras in Estonia are of course first and foremost the Looduskalender, "our", cameras.
So congratulations to Mr Looduskalender Gennadi Skromnov and his teams and all of us.

85 000 votes were cast during the 2 1/2 month voting process, a record for this kind of newspaper polls in Estonia, and some 30 things and ventures competed.

Maybe Estonian members can please tell more more about Eesti Asi :innocent:

Sorry, Kuremari, I felt sure someone had posted the news & searched as best I could, the search engine here & Google both - but I tried "Eesti asi", so no hits
Well, good news can't be told too often :D

Just in case anyone has missed it: as Ian wrote
viewtopic.php?p=122060#p122060
the boar camera will be on Estonian TV next week

From Ian's post
"Also the show will air on Monday and name of the show is "Osoon". Its on ETV 9.Jan 20:05, 10.Jan 13:40 and on 15.Jan 12:30 (all times are Estonian [thats CET+1 or GMT+2])

ETV can be viewed live from here http://otse.err.ee/etv/ (as its their own production its most likely viewable worldwide)
or after the show has aired it can also be found in the archives section http://etv.err.ee/arhiiv.php?otsing=osoon "

Here is a somewhat edited  Google Translate version of the ERR notice which actually follows the interview in the video quite closely.
"Estonian nature cameras are watched in many corners of the world

Pop-up Video: Estonian nature cameras are monitored in many parts of the world
24.04.2012 22:33
Marju Kaasik
Nature cameras put up in Estonian forests have attracted many foreigners who want to see for themselves the actual surroundings and conditions of their favorites.
Seven years ago, the first black stork camera was put up and the camera now collects thousands of fans from Australia to Austria. The storks’ doings are followed, and the first egg laid raises international waves of happiness, Aktuaalne kaamera / "Current Camera" tells us.
"They are very nice and pleasant people, they call themselves Storkaholics. They have been here several times, to see the nature of Estonia and of course the nesting areas but certainly not during the breeding season, only after that," said Looduskalender’s publisher Gennadi Skromnov.
Only very few know how much work precedes the pleasant viewing of the nest cam image on the computer screen. The fact is that if during incubation time, the image is lost because of technical failure, then the public will not see the chicks hatched; the dangers of serious interference to the birds is too great.[to risk repairs].

What can be seen in the cameras is a big gamble. For example, this year, the WTE camera instead lets you in on buzzards’ doings. In previous years , a mallard duck laid eggs in the WTE nest, and its eggs became prey to an accidentally passing WTE.
Eagle and nest camera installation expert Urmas Sellis said that how the nesting of someone is going to turn out cannot be known in advance, but it has been seen that the cameras itself don’t disturb.
"Especially when the cameras are installed previously, they [birds] are active there in the same way as they would be without a camera; now we can just see it too. I don’t think there are any ethical problems here," Urmas Sellis said.
The nature cameras have expanded their reach, and this year a sea eagle camera is up in Latvia. In addition bears in the Alutaguse camera and Käsmu beach are watched. Which other species we will soon observe the camera team did not want to disclose before technical checks.
The reason for the popularity of these cameras is in their genuineness, and the resulting numbers of viewers can make any reality show producer in Estonia jealous.
"Both on Aktuaalne kaamera and Looduskalender a completely genuine image is offered – what is, is there, what is not, isn’t” , said Gennadi Skromnov."

In the news item introduction on video a few words are said about it all being very strictly and seriously legal. Not stated if privacy laws for public surveillance cameras or not interfering with wildlife - or both - meant ...

Urmas doesn't change much and I hope he's happy with the success of the cams.
I have passed on the nestcam links here & there.

Looduskalender founder Gennadi Skromnov was on Estonian breakfast TV "Terevisioon" today morning.
The full Terevisioon can be watched here: http://etv.err.ee/l/meelelahutus/terevisioon - the interview with Mr. Looduskalender starts at about 17 minutes, or only the interview can be watched here: http://etv.err.ee/v/meelelahutus/terevi ... 789b78157e

Juta was so kind to make a short summary of the interview for us:

Looduskalender was founded 10 years ago by Gennadi Skromnov.
Looduskalender webcameras are watched from 183-186 countries over the years. Most are from Estonia, then Germany, Finland, Netherlands etc. Very many watchers are from Asia (unfortunately China blocks any live stream)

Why are people watching? Because it is so neutral with positive energy, why not to watch?
How much feed back do you get? We have the forum with registered members and strict rules. This is a place, where people can exchange their thoughts and opinions. It´s a fantastic place where there is almost scientific work (research) done. It´s a very rare website in the world where amateurs and professionals can cooperate. Everything what happens on webcams is registered by members all over the word with accuracy in minutes. Our ornithologists who are mostly doing fieldwork during summertime are not able to watch cameras. They get exact information from forum and also from recorded materials.
Have you heard how children react to what they see on cameras? Yes, in some kindergartens they are watching birdcam in the mornings with big interest. It´s a kind of meditation. It´s good that they maybe learn 3-4 species during season.
Why don´t you try to earn money with your cameras? Put there a kind of button or link or something... I think there would not be so many watchers if we would do that. And why should we spoil Nature cameras with this kind of information.
So it´s your mission? Yes, for decades already.
Very interesting fact about fish camera. In Taiwan they want to use it as interior decoration and you have to work out how to add sound in real time to it. Yes, it´s not a problem, this autumn we have to cover ground it.
