at least "yours" don't have transmitters - but we'll be able to follow the fate of "mine" (I'm not happy about it)

10:13 storklet is flying around again

10:16 Storklets are begging ... I think it is still the sibling outside the nest

10:17 yes, Sibling was on the right and flew off again.

they stay close to the nest and in the secure of the forest for the first few days. We see today that nothing has changed. They don't fly far!
It seems, the third has trouble coming back.
They are expecting their food on the nest and not outside the forest.

11:21 one flew to the left

11:30 resting

of course it's a pity that one of them didn't have anything to eat.
But I'm glad that at least 2 ate. It can always happen that someone is not at home when they are being fed.

:hi: to all!

Probably "a stranger stork nearby" was Grafs who lured the storklets to fly out. Other storks have nothing to do here.

I think the storklets could get food from Grafs also outside the nest.

asteria, is there any proof for feeding outside the nest? it is not mentioned anywhere in the literature. And we didn't hear it near nests either. I mean they don't spit the food in the forest, do they?

I saw it only in white storks in RS Makov, where storklets first go down from the nest to the meadow (only then they learn to fly)
neither in the case of other whites nor in the case of blacks I did not see or read it either

All I know is that white storks feed their storklets outside the nest, at least that is what we saw in Makov. I suppose that black storks could do the same and it would be interesting to know whether my guess is right. If, f.e., Grafs comes to the nest and sees one of his storklets sitting nearby, will he feed the two kids in the nest and leave the third one without food?? What will he do?

in Makov there are only injured white storks. The nest is almost at floor level. This makes it practically a large nest for the parents and chicks. incl. meadow.

I watch white storks in the wild!
The juveniles are with their parents on freshly plowed fields and look for food themselves. Just like the parents. They learn from their parents where to look for and find food.
