March 28

Good Morning all :hi:

5:29 it's already bright. Gaja is still in the nest
Image

5:42 she cast a pellet
Image

5:56 after light nest work she left the nest.

I hope she is waiting this year. Last year there was no usable nest at this point. I think that's why she stayed away. At least I hope that was the reason. Kaupo will arrive around April 7 -8.

8:49 There is an enemy. she is clattering with her beak an flew away. Could be a goshawk or a white tailed eagle

M.S.
My guesstimate (because in almost all cases when this behaviour is documented in Trail-cameras we do NOT see what bird does see – just his/her or both adults’ next to each other at the same time - behaviour) is – it could be any predator, and in most cases it seems to be a mammal (likely – Marten) that is causing such reaction. Bird is sort of making itself bigger while is prepared to escape asap if necessary. In doubtless cases when bird predators have approached or attacked this behaviour has been absent. But good data (with predator in sight) are too few so far.

Please check the first page from time to time.
I will provide all information from M.S. paste there. He doubts it is Gaja.
I will watch the videos again carefully. And also I will try to get good pictures of the plumage (female)
Then I read that M.S. thinks, that it was a male yesterday. I thought, it was a defending by Gaja... It could have been a passing bird. It is very early in the season...
I have to think about it. :slap:

EDIT: I will always correct myself if I get a better assessment of a situation. Maybe it looks like I have no idea .. that's probably the way it is
I still have to learn and I'm always ready to learn.
