Handbyl, we could see that he was cutting up the prey. So the statement that males can't cut the food is not true
I read it here in the LK many years ago. The female wasn't there and the male put the prey in the nest and flew away.
I asked why he wasn't feeding, the chick was very hungry. the answer was he can't cut the prey.
It must be a other reason he's not feeding the chick.

Sounds bizarre that a male couldn't cut up prey - male eaglets do it etc and as you note, now we see Andris proving quite capable.Liz01 wrote: ↑September 5th, 2021, 5:23 pm So the statement that males can't cut the food is not true

In all these years we have not seen the male cut food. The little one in the nest hadn't eaten for hours and was really extremely hungry.
We were worried. But the male only brought the food, he saw that the chick was hungry and it seemed there was nothing he could do.And so it was in the years that followed. No feeding by the male.I believe that is why that conclusion was drawn. It was at the beginning of the observation. We learn here on the cameras. Before that, there was no way to observe them so closely.
